Apologies, I explained myself rather oddly. Separate incidents. The person I was referring to (with whom I got into it on facebook) is an acquaintance of my husband, who, I know for a fact, never lifts a finger here yet is constantly railing about Palestine. The type of people I’m referring to are people I come across at the masjid, not necessarily people on facebook. (Alas, I’m rather reclusive online and do not have 900 facebook friends. At most, I have 50 people total, including family, friends, and colleagues. :D)
Now, Britain is a free country and I’m not suggesting that people should be forced to volunteer or give to charity. If one wants to rail about what’s happening in Palestine while never lifting a finger in one’s own community, that is quite fine. Such people just shouldn’t expect to be taken seriously.
