IMO Islamic beliefs accommodate concept of destiny. There is also concept of Taqdeer in Islamic literature.

If destiny is preordained, then there must be some method of predicting it.

Is any kind of calculation possible without using numbers?

In numerology, all things, like Date of birth, first name, last name, all are unified in a single digit by adding while in astrolgy, only position of stars with reference to time and birth is calculated. Like at this time where was mangal positioned, in which nakshtra etc.

But how could people measure distance between earth and different stars without using numbers? I mean can we say that astrology is older than numerology?

Astrology needs to know only position of certain planets in I think 12 grihas,houses, Astronomy is complete science:)
