Here the history behind Lipton:

Re: History of Brands

History of Coca-Cola

Re: History of Brands

b*****ng came when during cattle age, humans started symbolizing toes of cattles, those symbols told to which house a particular animal belonged to:)

Re: History of Brands

word brand ing is getting auto corrected:D

Re: History of Brands

I just read yesterday that during Feroz Shah Tughlaq’s time, the hooves of horses were marked with burn signs (through fire) for identification purposes.

:hehe: Thats why I edited the tittle.

Re: History of Brands

I think ladies would have discovered it, as inscribing names on the bowl for identification purpose as we used to do "katorebaazi", katorebaazi means sending katoris of sabzis in each other's house:D.

Re: History of Brands

Yes my mom also inscribed my name even on the steel glasses of the house :D

Re: History of Brands

This helps in organizing in Katorebaazi, I assume as we were the first people to learn reading and writing, may be even symbology, if we take harrappa in account, hence people of sub-continent discovered symbology:)

I took liberty of writing sub-continent, my saas would have proved it as pandit thing:D

Re: History of Brands

hahaha.. These Pandits deserve to be proud :D

Washing powder is still generally known as Surf. My Ammi used to say ' Surf khatam hogaya hai, kapde bhi boht jama hogae hai, zara surf to la do' and she used 'Ariel' washing powder :D

So surf seems to be the first washing powder brand introduced in Indo-Pak.

Re: History of Brands

If it is upto pride, it is okay, but the lines like,"Vashisth gotra ki brahmin hoon mein, poore raghukul(lineage of bhagwan ram) ko siksha(education) di hai hamne, tum ho kya mere saame, gandhaar ke jungli:( :D"

I think in India it is Nirma, the ad of "sab ki pasand Nirma," my naani still calls is Nirma, some KarsanBhai Patel, Gujju Bhai's company:D

Re: History of Brands

:omg: Intellectual tu tu main main… but in this case it seems only ‘Main Main’

Here is the success story behind - Sab ki Pasand Nirma.. Overall its Market penetration with lower cost that introduced this brand to Indian consumers.

So what is the price of this brand now compared to other brands… It was 4 time cheaper than the other brands, when introduced in 1960s.

Re: History of Brands

I got first glimpse of it soon after my marriage, when we were returning from Tirupati, she blew a german historian in every argument she made:). I knew their community is 100% literate, later she told be Ahmediyyas are in same legue:D, now I dread Ahmedis as well:D

this was the biggest success story, when it comes to business Gujju bhai is master:D, Nirma was always cheaper, for the first time in history, detergent came in affordable limit.

the other generic brand is Colgate in India. In rural areas every toothpaste is called Colgate, thought I would name ParleG biscuits, world largest brand of biscuit" after Nirma

Now Nirma is loosing market as others have reached that level and India’s purchasing power increased. I think in soaps Rin and in detergent it should be Surf.

Re: History of Brands

What is this Ahmediyyas :konfused:

Interesting. Never thought that Colgate is so popular in India that its a generic name for toothpaste. Nowadays brands are heavily dependent on Advertisement. I think Lever has a policy of spending a % of their total sales on Advertisement. Besides they have come with different brands in similar category to cater needs of different income group. In Pakistan in Shampoo category, they have Clear, Sunsilk, Lifeboy Shampoos targeted for different income groups.

Re: History of Brands

Pampers & kleenex brands were popular here.
Most people referred to diapers as pampers & tissues as kleenex.
We still call it Kleenex:bummer:

Re: History of Brands

Quadianis, Dr Abdus Salam community, ammendment XX, I didn’t write Ahemddiya muslims as while I was visiting quran exhibition in delhi, sunnis did Dharna Pradarshan and it was closed down:(, they were claiming that Ahemaddiyas are not muslims etc, my saas says that this community is also 100% literate.

SunSilk is almost generic, Bisleri mineral water, ParleG biscuits, LifeBuoy soaps,
Brands can be considered as an Individual’s name, Like Thagguu ke laddoo, of kanpur, "Aisa koi saga(near relative) nahi, Jisko maine thaga nahi:D
Kareem Chinkens, Chandni Chowk. RamBhog Chhole Bhature.
I think even Bollywood is big brand in India:)

Re: History of Brands

we used to ask for Nirma instead of washing powder in my village and every other place....

Re: History of Brands

Yes they are padhi likhi community. I think this is with all the minority communities like Agha Khani /Ismaili. They need to be educated to face the majority. Even our Shia brothers knew more about history than Sunni Muslims. BTW, these sects are also likes Brands :D

There is this Multani Sohan Halwa. When I visited Multan and went for buying Halwa.. Every shopkeeper had a banner 'Hum hi asal sohan halwa banane wale hain' :D

I think the reason behind that may be non-availability of easy to say word in local languages for washing powder.

Re: History of Brands

Jews won more noble prices than any other community..............

Re: History of Brands

Because their forefathers ate branded food known as 'Man o Salwa' :D
