Historic Thread: 2nd Test @ Headingley, Pakistan STUFF Australia after 15 years

Expect to see more Pakistani support here than at Lords

I would like to see the following three changes

  1. Salman Butt made test captain
  2. Yasir Hameed replacing sifarshi Imran Farhat
  3. Razzaq or Fawad Alam coming in for Afridi

Hope they do not bring Shoaib Malik back for the second test. Like Afridi he is not test material. Must persist with Azhar Ali (showed promise in the second innings of the first test) and Umar Amin

All I am asking from the team is greater application and discipline during batting

It’s back to the drawing board for Pakistan

I totally agree with you, Farhat throws his wicket by playing stupid shots time after time. It's time to get rid of him for good.

re: Historic Thread: 2nd Test @ Headingley, Pakistan STUFF Australia after 15 years

I think following changes will be made.

Yasir Hameed to replace Imran Farhat.
Shoaib Malik to replace Afridi.

Rest of the team stays the same.

re: Historic Thread: 2nd Test @ Headingley, Pakistan STUFF Australia after 15 years

Pakistan need to somehow find a way to break the current miserable losing streak (13 tests) against Australia

It ain't funny anymore :)

re: Historic Thread: 2nd Test @ Headingley, Pakistan STUFF Australia after 15 years

Asif.. what sucks is that in those 13 tests they should've won some of them easily.. but they fked it alll up..

I just want to see Australia lose !! GO PAKISTAN !!!!

No Fawad Alam or Razzaaq in the test squad of 17 announced by PCB. Shoaib Malik is definitely replacing Afridi. No doubts about that, unless they play a 5th bowler which is highly unlikely given the weak batting lineup. Only hope in not seeing Shoaib Malik for Younus Khan to be called in (since he is playing for Surrey) for Afridi but Ijaz Butt's ego is larger than the interest of Paki team.

I don't know about Salman Butt's leadership skills, but he sure projects a more modern image of Pakistan with his coherent angrezi. That is a refreshing change.

Agreed. As far as recent tests go, they should have won the Sydney test. Even at Lord's, Pak dominated play on the 1st day and after tea on day 2 only to lose it on day 3. Bowling too was disappointingly inconsistent in the second innings - the last two wickets should never have scored that many runs (126). That is just pathetic stuff.

I still think Pakistan's current test bowling is better than Australia's

The less said about the batting the better. Application, patience and discipline is the key (aka. temperament)

re: Historic Thread: 2nd Test @ Headingley, Pakistan STUFF Australia after 15 years

:cryb:

Agreed, we need some experience in our batting hence both Yasir and Malik are required. Malik might not be a brilliant batsmen but he can stay on the wicket and keeps rotating the strike.

You sure have a point there

I know not many in the Pakistani team can speak English but that is hardly the criteria for selection or becoming a captain. Neither is it a point to feel embarrassed about. As an example how many football team captains and coaches spoke fluent english during the world cup. Very few. Some spoke none.

But Ehsan bhai there is really no need to start every interview with thanks to Almighty Allah...It looks so unnatural and out of place. There is a time and place for everything. It is all courtesy of Inzi BHAI

Were Imran and Wasim not Pakistanis? Did they start every conversation with...

Just my opinion..

re: Historic Thread: 2nd Test @ Headingley, Pakistan STUFF Australia after 15 years

Starting everything with Bismillah is something which part and parcel of our religion and culture, whether they should be saying it after every match is another matter. The point here is speaking english, and I for one think that the criteria should be how good they are as a player not their english. If they can speak good and fluent english it is an added bonus.

BTW it was Waqar who started the Bismillah tradition and not Inzi.

re: Historic Thread: 2nd Test @ Headingley, Pakistan STUFF Australia after 15 years

I sort of agree with Ehsaan that speaking English is not a requirement to be the captain. So many footballers dont speak it and things go along fine. What I have a problem with is forcing a guy who is not comfortable speaking English.. to converse in it live infront of thousands of people.. why dont theyy just use a translator everytime a guy is not comfortable with English?

Not having the captain embarrass himself like this.. is the refreshing change! To a level it does project a better image.. compared to the guy struggle for words and giggling like a 12 yr old girl.

I am not a fan of any kind of religion so obviously I personally find it annoying how so many Pak captains HAVE to start talking with a long praise to god.. nothing against Pak or muslims.. I would feel the same way if Dhoni started everry interview with "jai shri krishna"..

so to ME.. that will be another refreshing change..

bismillah is enough

re: Historic Thread: 2nd Test @ Headingley, Pakistan STUFF Australia after 15 years

My simple rule is:

Either converse in urdu or (if you really have to...then) speak correct english :D

re: Historic Thread: 2nd Test @ Headingley, Pakistan STUFF Australia after 15 years

Asif.. I think the problem is that many desis know a little bit of English.. and hence they want to converse in it...it would hurt their ego to have a translator.... the guys who know absolutely NO english usually get a translator.. its these half broken and incorrect english speakers that are embarrassing.

Absolutely.

To Ehsan's point - I wouldn't care if desi players (like many football players at the WorldCup) only spoke in their native language using a translator where required. However, the problem is that many desi players if they know a few angrezi words they start to think they can speak English well enough.

And that is when they make such brilliant statements as - "I think there is moisturizer in the wicket" (M. Asif) - making a fool of themselves in front of millions of people.

And invoking religion for every little thing makes it even worse.

EDIT - looks like Sharabee is making the same point above. I did not read his post before I posted my own.
