re: Historic Thread: 2nd Test @ Headingley, Pakistan STUFF Australia after 15 years

HAHAHAAaa asif ive never seen that movie but that scene is hilarious.. good ol amitabh !!!

i was quite drunk a couple of days before i joined this forum.. and my gf was giving me 2 much **** and calling me a sharaabee.. cuz i passed out while on the phone with her hahahha.. and she was calling me a sharabee nonstop.. so when i was joining the website i thought hey what better name? plus i love whisky !

I see what you mean. Technically speaking the Australian leg of the summer is a 'home' series for us and the squad should not really matter and you should be able to select players from outside the squad i.e. playing Younus etc. should be ok

The series against England (away) is a different matter altogether where you are obliged to select from the chosen squad only or replace a player with someone

You are right. It was Shabbir...My memory failed me there.

Good one Asif…

But this video (Amitabh proving he can speak English by relating a cricket Test Match situation) is more in context of the discussion :

re: Historic Thread: 2nd Test @ Headingley, Pakistan STUFF Australia after 15 years

I think this will be the playing XI:

  • Salman Butt (c)
  • Yasir Hameed
  • Azhar Ali
  • Umar Akmal
  • Umar Amin
  • Shoaib Malik (reluctantly)
  • Kamran Akmal (w/k)
  • Mohammad Aamer
  • Umar Gul
  • Mohammad Asif
  • Danish Kaneria

re: Historic Thread: 2nd Test @ Headingley, Pakistan STUFF Australia after 15 years

Ajmal tipped to replace Kaneria!

“There has been some talk about playing Ajmal,” a team official indicated to Cricinfo. If the think-tank does favour Ajmal it would be a rude jolt for Kaneria who managed to impress everyone, including Shane Warne, with his control and accuracy at Lord’s, particularly in the first innings, and he finished with match figures of 4 for 123 in conditions that favoured the pace bowlers.
But the presence of five left-handers in the Australia line-up could be the clinching factor when Salman Butt, Pakistan’s new captain, sits down with his coaches to decide the final eleven on Tuesday. Ajmal has better figures against left-handers in comparison to Kaneria. His average against them is 36.00 compared to Kaneria’s 49.27, although against the right-handers both are fairly close with Kaneria (28.56) slightly behind Ajmal (24.07).

Will they have the guts to finally drop Farhat? I dont know. Yasir should be in the team ahead of Farhat but you can never know what these guys will do..

As for Malik, hes the only option in the middle order with the squad they selected.

Hopefully the batsman can get runs...if we get runs we can compete...if we collapse yet again then here comes another drubbing at the hands of the aussies.

I think they should play the following team:

  1. Salman
  2. Yasir
  3. Azhar
  4. Amin
  5. Umar
  6. Malik
  7. Kamran
  8. Aamir
  9. Asif
  10. Gul
  11. Ajmal

re: Historic Thread: 2nd Test @ Headingley, Pakistan STUFF Australia after 15 years

so you prefer Ajmal over Kaneria..

it may not be such a bad idea given there are so many left-handers in the Aussie side

I totally agree with your post except for item #2

instead of

  1. Yasir Hameed replacing sifarshi Imran Farhat

it should read

  1. Anyone replacing sifarshi Imran Farhat

and finally, I'd bring Malik in place of Afridi instead of Alam or Razzaq

re: Historic Thread: 2nd Test @ Headingley, Pakistan STUFF Australia after 15 years

Ajmal has played 5 test matches and to be fair has not looked threatening as his bowling is not penetrative enough in tests.....Remember the MCG test last year? he went for 223 runs and only took 2 wickets.

re: Historic Thread: 2nd Test @ Headingley, Pakistan STUFF Australia after 15 years

Salman already said he is not dropping Farhat for 2nd test. Also, there is talk of Ajmal over Kaneria. I think they should play both and not include Shoaib Malik. Because, think about it. We will be bowling for most of the match and batting for a very little time and Shoaib Malik has never played test match on English soil. He has only played a handful of test matches in seaming conditions of Aus/NZ. He failed in the only tour game he played in before the first test. So he is not gonna last long anyways cuz he is not test material. But crude reality is that I have no say in the final team selection :-(

So much for the new captain. I suppose Farhat makes him look good as an opener.

re: Historic Thread: 2nd Test @ Headingley, Pakistan STUFF Australia after 15 years

I am the first person who w’d like to see the back of Farhat but I just read a chat session between Osman Samiuddin, Andrew Miller and fans and in it Osman mentioned that in 20 innings, Salman Butt & Imran Farhat have had 2 century stands, and 5 or 6 fifty stands which is actually quite decent.

Osman:
**Pakistan have had this problem of not finishing games for some time now actually, but I just feel that the nucleus of this side, with the bowlers it has and some of the batsmen, can really become a half-decent side soon if - and it is always a big IF - the PCB can not screw it all up. **

Osman:
Umair I felt as you did before this Test but I was actually quite impressed by Azhar, more for his temperament and ability to hang around than anything else. That kind of solidity is no bad thing at one down. U Akmal is the best batsman in the side no doubt but he is also almost as inexperienced as Azhar really. I think maybe he should come four and Amin five but really all three have played less than 10 Tests between them so its not that much in it.

**Osman: **
I think the captaincy might have come at just the wrong time for Butt even though I think he might do a reasonable job of it for some reason. But again, these are not ideal circumstances - they had to appoint someone and he was scoring runs. I have a suspicion that he might adapt to it well - he is a confident guy, he does lose concentration too often for me, but he is batting well, he has the respect of guys in the side. I just hope it doesn’t affect his batting.

Osman:
I was a bit shocked by the amount of disregard some in the English press whipped up for Afridi’s batting and his retirement…it was hardly a crime. But Vic Marks in The Observer made some good points, especially in recalling that horrid 1988 summer series against the West Iindies when England changed four captains in four Tests

Osman:
Hahahahahaha Hussain, you and only another 170 million want the answer to that. To be absolutely fair, Farhat did score runs in New Zealand and Australia and his partnership with Butt is working - I will get some stats in a sec - and given that the partnership is working I don’t think it should be broken. It reminds me, in a very watered down way, of Aakash Chopra and Sehwag - one was scoring runs, the other was at least hanging around helping the team make fifty

Osman:
Back to Farhat, I think in ten Tests together they have some 5 or 6 fifty partnerships and a couple of hundred stands - even in Lord’s they made 51 second time round so in recent Pakistan terms, they’re Greenidge-Haynes virtually!

Osman:
But not to sound like an Imran Farhat lover or anything, yes, he does need to score a few more runs and not get out to long hops from debutant leggies when set

Osman:
He might be the next captain you never know. Farhat that is. if Butt develops a limp that is, though I might be a better shout

@ last comment…hahahaa, so true of the circus that is PCB!

re: Historic Thread: 2nd Test @ Headingley, Pakistan STUFF Australia after 15 years

Pakistan lost the first test by 150 runs when Ponting, Hussey, Clark and Watson did not have their best game with bat.

If bowlers can bowl with same passion and hard work we can have a game in our hand, but I doubt that Aussies will not take advantage of a Pakistani team that is in total disarray.
