They were discussing the bill today as well in Capital Talk - personally, I think they pulled this crap in right before the elections - mainly to get their “mohtasibs” in line everywhere so that they can force people to vote for the MMA into parliament. I think they’re feeling really insecure that they wont get votes.
I’m sorry - the laws are already in place. What is good is good. What is bad is bad. Current laws, for the most part, already have in place an infrastructure. Its not being applied using the current executive force or past executive forces. So the problem is not in the law really, its in the executive force. Like police, etc.
By setting up a mohtasib system…why not just reform police? These guys just want their control over every little aspect of human life just to retain their power. They came into power, and nothing has changed or gotten better as a result of them being there.
And from the clauses they were reading out loud on television shows from the bill…

Its sooo funny how you people think about my province - NWFP.
About the Hisba Bill, whether its good or bad is another matter at all. The most important thing is that its a democratic country. We have an elected provincial assembly. Those (mullahs or watever u call them) dint come here by force. People wanted them to lead dem( whether u like it or not. Whether u r skeptical abt their leadership qualities or not). this is wat people here wanted. So there is no question abt other people being concerned wid it.
Believe me things arnt going as bad here in NWFP as most of u must be thinking. I believe we are as good as any other people.
After all, its not these mullahs who have been betraying us for the past 58 years. Its these Jaageerdaars n vaderas who have been treating us like a people from some lower caste who are only good for providing them with votes. They really dont care abt us.
They may be good politicians but they are not LEADERS. They cant lead us to our destiny.
I am not in favour of any particular group like mullahs or anyone else but i am in favor of democracy.
