A deal whereby Davis is released without charge and Aafia Siddiqui is transferred to a suspended sentence in Pakistan and able to go free.
Raymond Davis, a contractor working for the US mission in Pakistan, has been held for more than a fortnight after admitting shooting dead two men, despite American demands that he is entitled to diplomatic immunity.
Babar Awan, Pakistan’s law minister, stopped just short of demanding a prisoner swap but linked Davis with the fate of Aafia Siddiqui, who is in prison in the US after being detained in Afghanistan.
She was sentenced to 86 years after being found guilty of trying to kill her American interrogators, provoking anger among Pakistanis who doubt that she was able to grab a rifle and wound US marines in a heavily fortified base. Washington has postponed an important Afghan summit, which was due to be attended by the Pakistani foreign minister next week, as a result of the impasse over Mr Davis.
When asked about how to resolve the case by journalists, Mr Awan linked the two prisoners, and said the US had “a repatriation call and we have a call”.
Re: Hints begin that Pakistan will demand Aafia Siddiqui for Raymond Davis
Who is this Afia Siddiqui. Is she an actress?
YOU, VERY WELL KNOW WHO AFIA SIDDIQUI IS,
&
I HAVE NO DOUBT IN SAYING
THAT YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE ARROGANT MINDS
WHO JUST WANT TO CREATE A FUSS AND SEED HATE IN THIS WORLD....
REALITY CHECK....
GO TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT YOUR SELF,
AND TRY TO BE A BETTER PERSON...
Re: Hints begin that Pakistan will demand Aafia Siddiqui for Raymond Davis
Do not expect this mercy' andfreedom' from U.S . U.S knows it will then kickstart a bad practise and that will become unprecedented..At the moment only Mr.Davis will be discussed and his freedom.
Re: Hints begin that Pakistan will demand Aafia Siddiqui for Raymond Davis
i doubt that will ever happen.
governments only exchange spies. afia is no spy.
my prediction, devis will be let go and the case will be perused against him in AMerica
Re: Hints begin that Pakistan will demand Aafia Siddiqui for Raymond Davis
if that gets finalized, its gonna be a bad deal, very bad. aafia is not a criminal she herself is a victim... while this guy (who's identity is not even known to the people who issued him a visa, such losers and traitors) is a proven killer, has contacts with terrorists, has owned and used unlawful arms, broke a lot of other laws, involved in forgery... there is no comparison between these two...
Re: Hints begin that Pakistan will demand Aafia Siddiqui for Raymond Davis
Siddiqui is a convicted felon. She planned an unprovoked terror attack against military targets. Davis was approached by armed men and took defensive action. He hasn't been and most likely wont be convicted of the murder charge. I just can't see the trade happening with such uneven terms.
Re: Hints begin that Pakistan will demand Aafia Siddiqui for Raymond Davis
^ ^ They can fight the case and they will win for sure. but thats the last resort.
It is not about raymond davis, this is the test case for rest of their raymonds. whatever happens to davis will be made a benchmark and future action will happen accordingly if such situation arises again.
americans were hoping that a phone call will do, but pak govt played a good game and made this issue a public issue. they will release the davis eventually but it will be made clear to usa that future raymonds will have a hard time.
Re: Hints begin that Pakistan will demand Aafia Siddiqui for Raymond Davis
good deal i say. for those complaining about false equivalence (on both sides) .. this is the definition of a good compromise where both sides are dissatisfied. watch this scene
Re: Hints begin that Pakistan will demand Aafia Siddiqui for Raymond Davis
lol didnt you once post how she wasnt even a pakistani citizen to begin with?
off course she is not Pakistani citizen, she is one hell of a dangerous women which must be rot in jail for eternity. But for the face saving of Zardari administration - it will be pretty good for them in next elections.
Also if they trade afia with raymod it will shut many mouths in Pakistan.
Re: Hints begin that Pakistan will demand Aafia Siddiqui for Raymond Davis
Re: Hints begin that Pakistan will demand Aafia Siddiqui for Raymond Davis
Besides the realse/exchange talks…Pakistan must continue to demand the ‘handover’ of the other killer who ranover the cyclist and is now hiding in the Lahore Consulte or already secretly and safely smuggled out of the country…
Re: Hints begin that Pakistan will demand Aafia Siddiqui for Raymond Davis
Not according to the police officer who arrested her from Karachi along with her kids and handed her over to ISI in 2003 and then onto CIA for torture at Bagram, before she was supposedly found out of the blue outside a US base in Afghanistan…
