Hinduism and Jainism

What is the fundamental difference between the two ?? What are the basic beliefs of both religions ?. May some learned person be able to shed some light  Thanks.

Not asking for any argument sake, just for better understanding. Most of the people (including me) here are not familiar with beliefs system of these religions and we sometimes intentionally or unintentionally do offend them. Maybe with better understanding, we can learn a few things about each other and respect each other’s faith :flower1:

Re: Hinduism and Jainism

All Jains are hindus but not all hindus are jains. And you know what..it doesn't matter.

Re: Hinduism and Jainism

Pindi, which girls are more attractive? Hindu or Jain? My guess is that all Hindu girls are pretty but not all pretty girls are Hindus. What do you think?

Are Jains the ones that publish that Defense related magazine?

Re: Hinduism and Jainism

^ something like that Madhanee. Jainis are ascetics without god, Hindus are also ascetics but with god. both evolve..both change..but they remain linked in the message of becoming enlightened, god, mahavir..whatever you call it. become one with Brahma..I am going to try tonight a tthe Yanks-mets game and the following pre-wedding bash for our sikh friend. Sat sri Akal!!!!

Re: Hinduism and Jainism

so jainism is a sect ?

Re: Hinduism and Jainism

Codie yaar, Pinidi knows very little about Hinduism. It is a very complex system with very variants. Pindi represents an upper crust Kashmiri Brahmin views and impression of Hinduism and is an urbanite Bombayite and Dehli-ite. People like him make everything sound so simple and linear. It is not. Let me tell you what Hinduism is: First of all, there are no sects in Hinduism.

Hinduism is a way of living according to one's understanding of principles of the Vedas and the Upanishads. Now this understanding and principles are “individually” acquired and there is no such single power that forces one to follow a certain path. A true Hindu (such as myself) finds his own path. A false Hindu (like Pindi) believe that every path is a true path, but that is not true. It is only partially true. Every path is only true by the ones who takes it. My true path may not be true for you.

A true Hindu respects all others, even the others show disrespect towards him.

Re: Hinduism and Jainism

early jains were discrimnated and brutally killed

During 6th and 7th century AD, religious conflicts resulted in systematic extermination of Jains and decline of Jainism in southern parts. However, in northern parts, Jainism didnot face such harsh conditions and continued to subsist.

Re: Hinduism and Jainism

Hinduism, as you read the history, try to overcome every religion in their region. Like Budhism, there are more Budhists in China and Barma (now Miamaar) than India its self. Why? the reason is simple. When they saw Budhism is getting famous and the kings of states started to accept it, they found its cure. They added some of its teachings in their religion, and added their teachings in Budhism too. First Budhists didnot make an image of Budha, they made treem shoes, crown. elephant and other things to represent him. But when Hindus started their involvment, they painted Budha, First they painted Budha to show its religios teachings, but when Hinduism got more involved, they started to paint the private life of Budha. So after this they painted him as God, another God for Hindus.

Re: Hinduism and Jainism

^ what's a treem shoe?

Re: Hinduism and Jainism

^ sorry for mistyping, its Tree with comma, I pushed m instead of it. And I am writing ti here because I cant edit it. May be any Mod knows its sulotion.

Re: Hinduism and Jainism

who they.. hinduism does not have a figure head.. and besides budhism and jainism evolved out of hinduism, kind of reformist ideas. Hinduism never preaches or converts people. Hence there are no followers of Hinduism outside people of Indian origin.. yar of late there are groups trying to spread it. but only very late.
And for Hindus, Budha is not a God. He is a person and he is a scholer..a learnt men.. just like ramakrishna paramahamsa.
OMG, if u do not know about hinduism or for that matter Budhism or Jainism, why do u want to get involved in this thread.
I being a hindu does not know much on this.. and that is why i didnt involve myself in this thread untill u come out with logics which is just so ridiculous.

Re: Hinduism and Jainism

^ Well what I said was not my own thought at all. I love to read history, I read history of different religion in my Fine Arts Theory Book, in Philosophy book. I know every detail about most religion, how they started, how they grew and how some of them ended.

What I said earlier was very brief story about what happened to Budhism. So I am not spreading any rumours. Got it?

And how do you say that Ram and Sham are not Gods of Hindus? Hindus worship any thing which has any quality which they dont have. Like they worship elephats, tigers, monkeys, cows and any thing which has any quality.

Well I am posting this not to fight against you or any Hindu. I am just writing the information about Hinduism.

Regards

Re: Hinduism and Jainism

NO, at one stage in Hindu history the Brahmins delared Budhha as the ninth Avtar of Vishnu.

Re: Hinduism and Jainism

islam calls for killing idol worshippers wherver you find them does it include
hindus? if you say no then they are not idol worshippers if you say it is allowed
you are not doing your duty or you dont have the ability to do it.

Re: Hinduism and Jainism

Where is Ram and Shyam in my post. I talked about Ramakrishnaparamahamsa. He is a person..guru of swami Vivekananda.

Re: Hinduism and Jainism

I thought the ninth avatar is somebody who is very strong and is ready for war. which contradict to what budha ever stood for. I dont know which centuries those idiotic brahmins got this crazy idea then.
For that matter some of the people even say the sri satya sai baba of Puttavarthy as an avatar of Vishnu..
I dont believe in that crap.
