Please. Here’s the summary:

1. Diwana doesn’t understand that celebrating religious conversions to comply with the majority, in a country with a history of persecuting religious minorities, **sends the message **that other members of said minorities should also “get with the program” and convert.

Bold part is where the problem lies. The ‘message’ is ill-perceived, far fetched and simply ‘assumed’.

Hence there is really nothing to understand.
