I dont beleive that a.s is reserved for anbiya a.s so i use it for Hazrat Abu Talib a.s.
On the other hand u do believe using a.s for someone is implying he is prophet. Well i am sure u use a.s for Angels too.
Hazrat Jibrael a.s
Hazrat Isarael a.s
Do u believe they r prophets ?
So ur general rule fails.
Yes there is a logical rule of saying s.a.w only for Prophet s.a.w. Durood is sent on Prophet s.a.w not buzurgs.
Surely Allah and His angels bless the Prophet; O you who believe! call for (Divine) blessings on him and salute him with a (becoming) salutation.
Quran [33:56]
No one can force anyone from using such terms (a.s, r.a) or not using em. People use r.a for yazeed, same applies to calling ur neighbour abu. However its only fair to use titles for those who deserve.
thread deviating from hinda into abu talib.........and differences of shia-sunni............that sounds like a thread going off-topic to me...juss saying...

You have got an Admins eye.... My vote for making Nomica a Mod
Ok, then the title of the thread should also be changed from Hinda to 'Conversion of Hinda & Abu Sufyaan v/s conversion of Abu Talib - A shia sunni debate- Manazirah'

Nope thanks, am out and so is TLK so delete unwanted posts.
Threads deviate and then someone comes and reply to the OP and thread comes back to its original course. Happens all the times. No need to split, locked or rename the thread.
for those interested in references here is the scan of the title of the award winning (Sunni) book I mentioned earlier along with the couple of pages related to Hind b Utbah…
I didn't mean to say that you were disrespecting them ... it so happens that there is a big shi'a / sunni division over some matters and one of the disagreements is this topic. Sunnis make a point of not disrespecting Muslims especially those who were living in the time of Muhammad (SAW)....
well actually Sunnis generally shun history and even those few who do discuss it like to paint brush and conceal certain areas...........few individuals like Maulana Maudoodi remain exception but he copped a lot of flak for just mentioning the crimes of the likes of Muawiya and Amr ibne Aas in his book Khilafat aur Malookiat..............btw stating a fact about somebody is not 'disrespecting' them as u have tried to put it..........Maulana Maududi wrote a chapter on it in the later editions of his book called Khilafat o Malookiat.........I do not know history as well as some other members here (who do not seem active anymore).....but I will try to upload that chapter for u where Maulana Maududi has answered the ppl who they see as bigger than the truth itself........
I have seen shias using A.S after Hazrat Hussain and Hasan (ra) and also after Hazrat Fatima and Ali(ra)'s name but never seen someone using it for Abu Talib or Abdul Mutalib.
sister, if u can get hold of an old text of sahi book of hadiths such as sahi al Bukhari (not the new versions that are printed in Saudi Arab and Pakistan because they are revised and edited)...........if u do get hold of one then see for urself what Muhammad Ismail Bukhari has used infront of the names of Fatima, Ali, Hasan and Hussain...........or look up Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal's works and if he sends his salutations of panjtan or not........it is not just Shias who use AS for the names of the progeny of the Prophet saww...
You should read biography of Ameerul Momineen by Abdul Fateh Abdul Maqsood who was a teacher at Al Azhar University, Egypt. The title of the book is ‘Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib’. I am not sure if this book has been translated in Urdu or English but this 8 volume book is the best work I have read on Imam Ali covering the era of the first 50 years af hijri and the mass corruption that took place. Abdul Fateh Abdul maqsood was expelled from Al Azhar soon after his book was published.
