Husbands can only beat lightly(and that's only when she sleeps with some other dude) but there are no limits or conditions if a woman wants to beat her husband.
Chopping off hands of a thief and head of a murderer is not inhumane.
These are laws of God called Sharia given to us for our betterment. Also, each case is different and hence not every thief will have to go through this punishment. Shariah is not as simple as some people try to make it.
