yeh i agree, exaggeration is an 'asian' trait...lol... so is patriotism and being defensive...(ahem). I Have heard and seen evidence of too many 'stories' for things like this to be brushed under the carpet.
It makes sense that Muslims in the UK (and elsewhere) are not exposing themselves to clubs/alcohol/sex, etc. They are generally CHOOSING to be Muslim when living in non-muslim societies. In that same line of thought, it makes sense that there are kids in Muslim societies who are deciding not to follow Muslim sensibilities. Its the same thing, only backwards. Don't know why its so shocking (tho I do hope they're participating in these behaviors properly/using protection tho I'll betcha they're not since they're not educated about preventative birth control/moderate alcohol consumption/etc).

I've only ever heard stories...and when pressed to provide evidence...(I mean, this is the YouTube era)...I get nada.
well..uh well..i went to pak in december and everything was so different..like i didnt expect people to be to "free" in public..i went to karachi but i heard it's worse in lahore..the thing is..the more u try to stop something..the more society will rebel..however i dont recall things being this way..i just think that mushi's government is very pro - modernization..as in trying to become more like the west..the thing is...before there wernt parties..and whatever happened..well it was private..as for now..it's out in the open..

It's tricky. I've never seen as many Hijabs and beards either. It's one thing if the government tries to stop it...but if the common people start conflicting over this...it's a different story. And unlike the West, there is no concept of "freedom" available in the legal and political scene of Pakistan for the liberals to fall back on.
Where did you see people being "free"...and what exactly does being "free" entail?
Also, from what my cousins and bro in law tells me, there actually were 'parties' back in the day...even under Zia's regime. Or at least...there was talk of them...
Ive been told recently that the mahol in high schools of pakistan has really deterioated.
Earlier, I recall, it wasnt "common" to get laid while atleast in high school . But now who ever comes back from pakistan moarns over how the notion of "loosing virginity while in high school" has crept into the forth comming generations.
Would any of you have insight to this? anyone living in pakistan who'd like to shed some more light? anyone who'll knoe the indepth detial of all-so-glamorous-angrezi schools like beacon, city, lcas, lgs..... ?
thanks.
Do not listen to gossip and understand the reality.
There are not many schools in Pakistan.
Most of the schools are segregated.
Schools where kids can afford to party and get laid belong in high society areas.
Even in those schools, this behavior is rare.
Getting laid is a far fetch. I think 'bad behavior' in highschool kids can be attributed to smoking, pan habbits and skipping classes for other activities.
when i say free..i mean girls actually going out wit their boyfriends in public or like holding hands..i mean people wearing tanktops..or shelwars so short that they luk like capris..i mean local malls having models wearing the tightest shirts you can think of..i even went to a party which granted was not So "bad"..but there were girls dancing around with guys..ali zafar being one of them..and havent u seen defense..prostitues live there..have u seen a prostitute in car with some big shot puking??..i dont think so..i'm trying to say that..it's always happened..the thing now is..people are actually more open about it

beaconhouse (atleast the 1 i was in) has dance parties everyyear in school
this is nothing new, and has been around for atleast a decade. nowdays every week theres a dance party goin on somewhere - school kids rent out (private) places & party! its becoming more public now tho. all u need is a girl, otherwise most places don't allow you in.
my secret !! please elaborate the word " free" ................
and also specify , whether it's the urdu -or- english version of free
when i say free i mean..they're doing things which the average Pakistani would not approve of..things which should not be occurring in an Islamic country

right... no freedom..that's why the maulvi's are going insane..right..okay i agree..there were parties..but you didnt go yelling it out on the street or something..whatever happened was between the people who attended it...and the host..and..i'm just saying there wasnt as much talk of them..it wasnt so common..these days..all the little rich brats always have them..it's the "it" thing
I remember back in 1996, I was in Lahore celebrating New Year's with my cousins.
We all went out to hang out and stuff and these maulvis on Pajero Jeeps with Hockey Sticks came out and smashed all the windshields and punctured the tires of all the cars parked there.

Yeah, that's true...the stuff that was done was in private. I see what you mean about the rich brats. Perhaps the real social trend to keep an eye on isn't the liberalization of Pakistani society, but the increasing gulf between the spoilt rich and the silenced poor.
true..it's so sad..you see people going out to parties and stuff everynight...and then you see kids begging on the streets..doesnt make sense..the line between the rich and poor is getting worse..all i can say is..parents are doing this to their children..like..i've been here since i was like 6..and my parents are still so strict..i'm not how u say fully "americanized" but when i went to pak..they were so shocked at how i wasnt so "modern" like them...
parents r responsible....in Surah Tuba it is stated over n over again "we will judge ppl from lives, wealth and children"......look at the parents....corrupt ppl> make black money> wat else they will get> As u sow so shall u reap (i wonder Y WE READ THOSE CHILD HOOD STORY, or FAIRY TALES?....arghhh seemz like wasted)
