What were yours? I had two depending on my mood. Both were for different sets of friends and were really private places. One was behind the strip mall in front of our school to sit and smoke. The other was in at the bottom of a stairwell that I think (if I remember correctly) went to a closed off part of school. Hehe this was when we felt pseudo-intellectual and wanted to discuss philosophy. Conversations mostly dominated by two brilliant guys. I see them around university but we severed all contact after high school.
I was glad to graduate from highschool, have kept in touch bi-annually with only one girl. What about you guys? Any memories from highschool that stand out? What did you guys do for fun?
By the way what is the title? I guessed it has something to do with school.
School days were the best days of my life, life was so simple and fun, not that i realised at the time, its only when i look back and realise what a good time i had. Life just gets more complicated when you leave school.
I used to go to school to hang out with my friends, not to study! And I used to get told off for talking so much and rarely having my homework done, i used to copy it off my friends. I also used to skip a lot of classes when my friends had frees, so that i could sit and talk to them. But i did ok and finished univeristy and am now a teacher and hate the way kids treat teachers and take no interest in their work, but i just remember what i used to be like and the hard time i used to give teachers!
It has been 6 years since i finished school and i have contact with most of my friends, they are still my main group of friends. So i would definetly say that school days are the best days of your life!
High school was probably the best 4 consecutive years of my life. I didn’t study a bit but graduated in the 10 ten of the class, it seemed like all we did for 8 hours a day was socialize. Being oblivious about the real world was the safest feeling. Senior year (12the grade) was probably the best with the graduation ceremony and the whole prom fiasco was not too bad either!
I hated highschool, but I did all the 'high school' things like going to prom. It was fun but very overrated. Don't know about places to hang out other than the mall, and even then, I would never go.
highschool.. ergh thats ages ago. i used to study at Islamabad Model College for Boys (F-7/3), and the name itself meant that there was no hope of ever befriending a girl for the two years I was there. therefore I had to make friends who were not larkiyan, which has sadly set a very negative precedent in my life.
I was a reserved kid who had switched schools to come into college so I didnt make friends for the first six months. Then one day my classfellows were playing their brand of cricket (where the pitch was 8 meters long, the bowling was supposed to be vatta, and you were out if the ball went into the nalah) and i was watching and someone hit a shot it was going for six and i extended my hand and caught it ainywayin. the star batsman was out and the bowling captain came running and claimed that i was in the team all along and to prove it i would also get to bowl an over (the batsman i had got caught was a star batsman). i then took two wickets. that captain always used to pick me in his team after that and became my best friend ever!
places we'd hang out.. hm lotsa places. we used to run off from class to play cricket. one of the group would always take his key out and test the pitch even though it was made of cement and tell us that today his ball will spin a lot (he was a fast bowler). another always used to wear sunglasses when we went to woman-frequenting places which we would pretend he wasnt wearing and keep pestering him to wear (he was very dark). we'd go to a place called Jinnah Super to ogle mastooraat who were also playing hookey (we were privileged to have three girls schools nearby).
I was among the good boys in highschool. For some reason I don’t get along with good boys though..even now :-D. So I used to hang out with these freaks…once we locked our Urdu teacher in the bathroom for the whole period…obviously I was suspended.. apologized my way back in school.
One of my strongest memories is sitting at the cafeteria table with a bummed cd player and a bummed nin cd. A Pakistani guy who used to live down the road from me came and sat down and started listening as well. This is crap, he said. Read a song I was writing, this sucks.
Another is the jukebox that was in the cafeteria. It was free and since hardly anyone would be around after school ended for the day, I would repeatedly play Finger Elven, drag you down.
God, and sitting on the swings in the summer with air thick with pollen, watching kids play soccer and talking about a guy I used to like.
With my heart in my throat and nervous as hell, writing a note to a guy I liked and laying my soul bare. Then giving the note to his friend, my face burning, telling him to give it to E.P. and running, yeah running, away hoping, hoping, hoping.
Bumming money to buy the best bagels in the world from this independent shop. I must have owed that girl a hundred bucks.
Shahreen, what's the Yoof club?
And Mehnaz, yeah high school did kinda suck. But life gets better right?
Tikhi, hahaha, me and some girls went for the Science Olympics once just for the heck of it. We had to make a device that could hold a pepsi can. They would set up a fan and whoever's thingie moved the farthest would win. Haha we build this massive ship like thing. It was 6 feet probably, was made of wood and canvas and needed to be dismantled so the parents could bring it to school. It did not move a millimeter! Everyone had made these 1 foot really light things that moved so far. Haha we were the laughing stock :D
^ I thought we were talking about highschool. Anyway, I ma sure your gymkhana’s were a lot of fun, for you boys. We fortunately had chicks in our school. :k:
