Hiding food: is that a "Desi thing"?

I don’t know, I’ve never seen gori aunties hide food while the desi aunties seem to hide the nimko, PAAPSI, and if it has chocolate in it? You can bet your last $2 it WILL be hidden. Everything seems to come out of hiding when there is a guest (y’know, desi hospitality and all?), and if she’s ultra-old school she may even pull out the chaabi out of her bra.

What the heckity-heck is up with that? :khumar:

Re: Hiding food: is that a "Desi thing"?

Oh, I don't bother with hiding food. If I see someone eyeing my grub....I just lick it (or spit on it).

Nobody'll touch it then. Like marking your territory.

Re: Hiding food: is that a "Desi thing"?

But more seriously, I've never seen that happen, Emmy. Usually they're very hospitable. And if they are hiding it, it's prolly cuz think you're gonna inhale/snarf all the food they have.

Re: Hiding food: is that a "Desi thing"?

OP: No, It does not happen in my home. We always eat good and also present same to our guests too.

Allah always put barkah in my household, alhmdulilah.

mehmano ko khilanay say barkat hoti hai. :@:

Re: Hiding food: is that a “Desi thing”?

Emmy? I swoon.

And waitasecond! I’m not doubting their hospitality, they are great hosts to guests but apnay own ghar par or from their kids, they like to hide food. Especially some place it can be locked. I find the whole practice of locking up food SO FREAKING ODD! I get hiding something valuable but food?! Isn’t it meant to be eaten? :smack:

Re: Hiding food: is that a “Desi thing”?

Re: Hiding food: is that a “Desi thing”?

Re: Hiding food: is that a “Desi thing”?

Re: Hiding food: is that a “Desi thing”?

No thread can go by without the “desi” tag in it

:naraz:

Re: Hiding food: is that a “Desi thing”?

keyun k desi bachey sub kha jatey hain, kuch nahi chortey mehmanoon k leye …

:chai:

Re: Hiding food: is that a "Desi thing"?

^I hear that SO much! Maybe it could be due to the fact that they know they have one chance to gobble everything down before it goes into hiding again.

Re: Hiding food: is that a “Desi thing”?

And yeah ALL the desis do that? :halo:

Re: Hiding food: is that a "Desi thing"?

Similar principle at my house. Me and my siblings are pretty conscientious about what we eat, and we're all very active physically, so any food (protein!!!) gets devoured. Candy and most junk food can actually sit there for days. No one touches it.

Just reread your question, nothing ever gets hidden though.

Re: Hiding food: is that a "Desi thing"?

Its a catch 22

Aunties say they hide the stuff coz bachey sub kha jatey hain
Bachey say they eat it because aunties hide the stuff

Re: Hiding food: is that a “Desi thing”?

Uff, relax. It’s a joke and of course not every desi falls under the same category. Have some chai. :chai:

Re: Hiding food: is that a "Desi thing"?

You have juice, instead? :p

P.S: Sorry but I always dislike desi-targetted threads since they are too generalized

Re: Hiding food: is that a "Desi thing"?

^I don't mind a few desi inside jokes, I think we could use some lightheartedness.

Re: Hiding food: is that a “Desi thing”?

Now why would desi aunty need a chaabi that was pulled out from her bra for a guest? May be that should be the topic for another discussion! :rotfl:

About food, though, excellent observation! Definitely a desi thing. Although a gori aunty is not very likely to serve guests *trolley with assorted lawazmat *especially if the guests invite themselves in without notice, as can happen quite often with desis.

PS: Akalmand desi bachay should know that all the yummy treats are likely hidden somewhere in the kitchen cabinets so they should help themselves at night!

Re: Hiding food: is that a “Desi thing”?

Bcoz Desi Aunty Know how bhooki you are :cobra:
