I intend to read and review every book I erad this summer, for your delight and education (did that make sense?)
Instead of highjacking every other mohammed, rajas thread.. I’ll start my own.
OK so the books at the moemt are:
Virginia Woolf and “Mrs Dalloway”
Dan Brown and “The Davinci Code”
Paulo Coelho “The Alchemist”
Vikram Seth “A suitable Boy”
I know some of them have become almost cliche, however many of you recomended and re-recomended the same books, so I decided to reread the Alchemist and pick up a few other potential gems.
I’ve started with the Davinci code, so I’ll tell you how that goes.
You recommend a book such as this, and by "this" I referr to "The davinci Code" and yet shun the very notion of reading Rushdie.
To some Dan Brown is guilty of the same sin as Rushdie, albeit with a little more skill, it is safe to say this book made more sense than Satanic verses, however it was utter tosh < thats the Brit in me.
Talking of cliched conspiracy theories and the such, and weaving togeather unbelievable "coincidences" and a some what strained twist in plot...I feel it is safe to say that this book is hardly ground breaking, it won't go down as a literary landmark, and thankfully so.
Please refrain from suggesting this book to other impressionable minds.
The beginning was intreging, somewhat, the middle addictive (the guy is a born story teller) however the end was flimsy and completly unsatisfactory.
Dan Brown should go and write scripts. The book was made to be a movie, I am not sure if it has been done already, however it wouldn't need much work to make it hollywood friendly.
Ok, the more Ithink about it, the more annoyed i am getting.
Dan Brown is so not a writer, he is infact a story teller, someone should tell that kinda folk to go and get their own corner.
He wrote it like a blahdy script
Goodness that is so annoying.
Im past part tow of “A suitable boy” and it reminds me very much of a gossips corner.
Enjoyable however and it hasn’t “dragged” as yet, which is quite a feat.
The spolit brat of a kid, begins with M i forget the full name…
He is bugging me alraedy.
I like Latas fiesty friend and the mother is highly amusing.
Yes, I am talking about Meenakshi, and yea Maan, (you remember the names well)
She, unlike lata knows her mind, and acts upon it, she is not the obvious “weak and feeble” female, and nor is she sly, she says things bluntly to the point, and so far she sems smart to boot.
Maan needs a slap, he is 25 and yet no hint of a career, his friends (the Nawaabs sons) are lawyers and Doctors and yet he can do but follow around a singer.
O and the singers younger sis (with the parakeet) as wet as she seems she promises some type of revolt.
I cannot stand wishy washy poeple lats behaviour is thus also kinda annoying. But i definately like Meenakshi so far: lets see what she has to offer.
That guy...the one with the diabetes who organised Latas elder sisters wedding.....stressy guy, bossy (Maans dad I think) I did think he was interesting.
The mother really does tickle me though, so overly emotional.
Maans elder brother: I like him too. He's the intellectual, kinda washy too, but again Isense some kind of spine hidden beneath, esp how he made a stand for the books on the ciriculum.
Meenanshi was the wife, nope i dont mean her, like i said i was referring to lalats friend, who is prolly malati, I just read smoe moer and no, i still cant recall names
Hiccupie, so wanted a litrary landmark and you picked up Davinci Code? You probably would have been better doing a google search on "litrary landmark" or something.
