God knows what's the true intention that lies within the heart of a person. So whoever, a true momin(Muslim), had the right intention and died while fighting against the enemies to protect, his family, his country and his deen(religion) is a martyr. (His actions should be within Islamic Sharia). And Allah, inshAllah, will reward him for his deeds.
The person who just fight in the name of Allah/Islam but doesn't have the correct intention and action cannot be considered a martyr.
It doesn't matter how many times someone explain this, but you'll still argue and follow your desires, and will never return to the righteous path unless Allah Subhaanhu Wa Ta'ala guide you.
