My first detailed study in this forum will look at some historic personalities and discuss what made them "great" becuase as we all know few men and women are lucky enough to be bound with that title.
My first personality that I will discuss is of particular interest to UK guppies and guppans becuase I will be discussing what made Alfred the Great so "great"
Alexander the great was certainly a real figure of Antiquity, while sorry to say Achilles and Hercules are both steeped in Mythology.
However if you delve deep into the facts of the matter Achilles action at Troy could well have happened as recent Archeology has indeed found the city of Troy and it's remains show a series of dramatic engaements that match up with Homers Odysey.
As for Hercules again both the Spartan kings claimed decent from him as did the Sythian warrior people... so perhaps these mythical figures did have some genuine historical basis.
I see Libranrulz you are a fan of antiquity and particularly classical Greece and Macedonian history. Thats good to know.
I am a fan of classical greece and bit of roman history as well and I don't mind a bit of egypt thrown in as well but I guess thats the least. Sad thing is I like hercules because growing up that was my favourite cartoon and achiles because of the movie troy. I would also like to add Salah-ud-deen to the list too :D
This thread is inspired by top 5 villains though i found that one cannot really write their real opinion because it may offend many.
So here is the 'good' boy thread. Name your top 5 'non religious' and non mythical heroes of all times.
Mine list without any specific order. I have selected my heroes from recent history due to my lack of history knowledge :(
1 Mohan Das karamchand Gandhi
2 Bill Gates
3 Mustafa kamal Attaturk
4 Abe Lincoln
5 My Dad :)
Actually I was going to put Ghengis Khan in my list too but decided that he was not suitable, purely becuase he was not a mastermind and relied much on others whom History seems to have forgotten... Jochids, and supporters of Subadai will agree with me on the matter.... Ghengis was ruthless, barbaric... and any reason he had to be so was long lost. That said he was a terrific fighter and a man I could relate too very well but who was not as wise and powerfull as many others.... to put it bluntly Ghengis got lucky.
