Helpppp with the MAKEUP APPLICATION!

I need to know do we have to apply a moisturizer and then the sunblock or we can use the sunblock alone as its in the cream foam so it would do the moisturizing job aswell? (i have a spf50)
I’m sick of applying so many products onto my skin i feel my skin needs to breath and all these moisturizer+sunblock+primer+foundation+concealer+liquid highlighter(strobe cream)+ powder and sometimes the contour+blush(i only use these for the parties)…like seriously do i really need to layer my face with this much? i buy all these stuff thinking its all necessary stuff to make me look radiant but sometimes it feels too much is sitting on my face:( but i cant just throw them away as all of them are really pricey stuff…i just read on some beauty blog how some of them applies toner + moisturizer+serum then all the makeup stuff…OMG Please all the makeup expertss help me solve this issue:( if im going wrong anywhere..im really freaked out!!

Re: Helpppp with the MAKEUP APPLICATION!

There is no "right" or "wrong". Personally, I have combination skin. I apply moisturizer (currently using Argan Oil) at night only. During day, I only wear sunscreen (I don't wear makeup on a daily basis).

Is your skin dry? Does your skin need moisturizer during daytime?

As for primer/sunscreen............you can use something like MAC Prep&Prime SPF 50....it's a primer with a built in sunscreen. Many foundations out there also have built in sunscreen in them. Unless you're planning on actually spending time out in the sun......those type of sunscreen are good enough for exposure during walking to car, driving etc. (unless you have a really LONG drive!).

As for the rest of it....no, you don't have to do anything of it. I have co-workers at my office who "doll up" every single day (blush, contour, lipstick) etc. Then there's me...I usually wear sunscreen....that's it. Maybe once a week (or if I have a important meeting scheduled), I'll wear light MU. Do what YOU feel comfortable with.

Re: Helpppp with the MAKEUP APPLICATION!

Don't wear it if you don't feel comfortable wearing it. SIMPLE! No one's forcing you to wear make-up are they?

Re: Helpppp with the MAKEUP APPLICATION!

Re: Helpppp with the MAKEUP APPLICATION!

Paheli thats so kool u dont wear makeup on daily basis but ppl like me needs to wear it everytime i step out home :(

Re: Helpppp with the MAKEUP APPLICATION!

Sunscreen/Sunblock should always be applied before anything else on your face, and that includes moisturizer. If you feel like your sunscreen does it’s job, or it’s added with moisturizer you don’t need to apply some extra on top. However, proper application of sunscreens demands that you should reapply it every 2 hours, no matter what your SPF (yes even with SPF 50). So, if you’re putting on a lot of makeup on top of sunscreen, which would just get smeared once you reapply your sunscreen, then you might want to reconsider everything that you are putting on your face.

Re: Helpppp with the MAKEUP APPLICATION!

Why? What's wrong with your skin?

I have bad undereye circles. My skin used to have a lot of acne scars (hyperpigmentation). I did chemical peels like 2 years ago that got rid of most of it. But I still have a FEW spots and currently started back again on the peels to work on them.

I'm blessed enough to have a job that doesn't require me to wear MU (unless I'm dealing w/ clients and those are generally by appointments so I know ahead of time). It's not about me having "perfect" skin. Its about me feeling confidant that I don't need to wear MU. After all....who're you trying to impress?

If you have skin issues (acne, scars...whatever)....work on those issues instead of covering it up with MU everyday. In the long run, covering up the issues doesn't do any good in my opinion.

Re: Helpppp with the MAKEUP APPLICATION!

Seriously what the heck is primer and strobe cream? (I know what they are) but are they really that useful? i'm sure you can omit them from your foundation routine and still have nice skin. I JUST use a light moisturizer then foundation and powder. Sometimes the foundation has spf in it, so you don't need to use extra sunblock.

Re: Helpppp with the MAKEUP APPLICATION!

"what? what?", what? :D

Re: Helpppp with the MAKEUP APPLICATION!

LOL....yea I never got why people use "strobe cream". I tried a sample of it and found it pointless. As for primer....I know personally for me...Primer does help my foundation last longer and go on a little smoother.

I do agree that these days, many products are "combined" so there is no need to pile them on separately. MANY moisturizers and foundation these days have a built-in sunblock and for day-to-day wear...there's no need to apply separate SPF if you're only being exposed to sun while walking to car or driving.

Re: Helpppp with the MAKEUP APPLICATION!

Paheli,

How many treatments of chemical peel did you need to see noticeable results? I have some pigmentation, scars and large pores left from acne that i want to start treating. Also, what is the difference between chemical peel and microdermabrasion in terms of treatment of skin?

I would love to hear input from you! thanks

Re: Helpppp with the MAKEUP APPLICATION!

I don't know much about microdermabrasion. But from my understanding, they blast fine crystals onto the skin and take off the top layer? Again...not 100% sure. But I do know microdermabrasion in non-invasive and doesn't require much "healing" time b/c nothing is penetrating into the skin. This also will not work for deep scars or wrinkles.

Chemicals peels: You have several to choose from...Lactic, Glycolic, Salicylic, Mandelic, TCA. These are acids that literally burn off the top layer of the skin. These penetrate into the skin, generally require multiple treatments...and depending on how "deep" the peel is (based on % of the chemical/time left on) can require "downtime" to deal. (ie. face can be reddish, flaky etc. for several days; for deeper peels....the skin will "frost" which will eventually scab and fall off...these can take 1-2 weeks to heal; I had "frosting" happen to me once and it took about 1.5 weeks).

Lactic & Mandelic peels are the most gentle ones. TCA is the strongest and should be used with EXTREME caution. I did 40% Glycolic peels (5-6 if I remember right) about 2 years ago and it got rid of most of the hyperpigmentation I wanted to get rid of. I did try 30% Salicylic and found it to be too strong for my skin.

Recently I decided I want to get back to doing peels to smooth out my skin more. I did a 40% Lactic Acid peel last Saturday.....my face is still "recovering" from it. I will most likely do this once every 2-3 weeks until I'm "happy". Then maybe move to Glycolic or continue with this. Haven't decided yet. Maybe 2-3 years from now, I will look into starting TCA. My "issues" aren't bad enough to justify TCA right now in my opinion.

** Please remember the following:

1) I can not stress enough that you NEED to do your resesarch before doing any chemical peels on yourself. Without proper education...you can easily burn yourself and cause bad scarring. Almost all the "horror" stories I've read about these peels...its been b/c people didn't do their research. They either left the peel on for too long, used too strong of a peel, didn't do patch test before, didn't use sunscreen afterwards diligently etc. So PLEASE do research, understand the risks associated with this before doing it.

2) All chemicals peels make your skin extra sensitive to the sun (just like retinol & AHA products). Wearing sunscreen ANY time you're outside the house is a MUST. Otherwise, the risks of you developing hyperpigmentation increases.

3) I buy my peels from MUAC. I've always been super happy with their products & customer service. Their shipping is ridiculously fast.

4) I highly recommend you go to Makeupalley.com....and read reviews for different peels under their "product reviews" section. You can also do to their "skincare board" and do a search on peels and you'll find tons of information/people's personal experiences.

Re: Helpppp with the MAKEUP APPLICATION!

Thank you so much for answering Paheli! I am initially going to try to get the peels done professionaly. I am too scared to try it on myself mainly because i haven't done my research yet. I don't know the procedure as to how it is done. Just have heard about it to help with the acne scars. Maybe i can get a couple of treatments done by a dermatologist until i feel comfortable with trying it on myself. I just wanted to know how many treatments it takes to see results since it is costly and i would give up after a few if it didnt show any improvements in the skin. It seems like you have gotten a lot and you plan on continuing long term does that mean that the results are non-lasting?

Re: Helpppp with the MAKEUP APPLICATION!

MsAshoo -
As I mentioned before, how many treatments you need depends on how strong the acid is and how "deep" the peel is. The "procedure" is basically you apply the acid on your clean face using a Q-tip, or brush. Leave it on for a few minutes (the time will depend on how much your skin can handle; the longer you leave it on, the deeper the acid penetrates). As soon as I'm ready to stop, I put baking soda all over the face to neutralize the acid. Then I wash it off with cold water. Then apply Argon oil (or any other heavy moisturizer).

If you have the money and don't mind spending it on going to a professional...then there's absolutely no reason for you not to do so.

As for results: Well, it depends on WHY you're getting the peel done. If you want it done to get rid of scars....once those scars are gone, they're gone forever. However, it won't prevent NEW scars (any new one you may get from acne in the future). Yes, the deeper peels can get rid of wrinkles/fine lines...but they won't prevent NEW wrinkles/fine lines.

Currently I'm doing the peels to even out my skin tone and keep it smooth. That's why I choose Lactic (it's gentle). "Result" wise its not different than me going to a spa for facial or using scrubs to exfoliate. Yes, it will even out my skin tone/make it smooth....but that's not permanent. Personally, due to my current skin "condition", I'm using the Lactic Peels as a "facial" (ie. instead of getting a facial every month or few months...I'll do this at home once every 3 weeks or so).

If all you want from the peel to do is to get rid of your current scars...then once those scars are gone...you don't need to continue getting peels (now if you get new scars after that and want those new scars gone...that's a diff. story.)

Re: Helpppp with the MAKEUP APPLICATION!

Thankyou.. i will start reading more about it before i try or unless i just get it done professionally. If i come across anymore questions ill ask again =)
