I need some help with deciding on a new cell phone plan. For the past 7 years or so, my husband and I have separate carriers…me on AT&T, and his cell phone paid by his employer. He was carrying 2 phones for years..his work phone and then a prepaid T Mobile plan on his personal cell phone ($35/mo). He recently switched jobs so he lost the work phone. His personal prepaid has no data package so in an effort to get him up and running and also cut down on costs we want to merge to one cell plan.
I have been grandfathered in on AT&T’s old rate plans, so after my corporate discount, my final bill is around $83 a month for the 450/minutes+ unlimited data plan. I just looked up my last cycle’s bill and my data usage was Data Unlimited
Plan KB Unlimited
KB Used 3,007,356
1 Gigabyte (GB) = 1024MB, 1 Megabyte (MB) = 1024KB
Can someone please help me decipher this and explain how that will fit in to one of these two TMobile plans below?
I’ve never given much thought to my data usage as it was unlimited and I pay for my own cell phone plan. Now that me and the Mr. are joining forces lol, I need to know what I can and can’t do on this new plan:

I should add that my cell phone and data usage consists of: Whattsapp, email (work & personal), Docusign (sending contracts for digital signatures), My Realtor key box entry (it's a bluetooth enabled app/keyfob now), web browsing, GPS, Social Media (facebook, instagram, GS etc). I have limited the kids games as they all have their own ipods//tablets now.
You were definitely paying more than what you would pay with t mobile.
You used 2.86 GB with ATT. I would advise to go with the 3gb plan with T-Mobile. Keep in mind that the rates T-Mobile is showing does not have a corporate discount. It's 12%, I think.

Khatti i'd pick second plan ($90) as it gives you a ton of room to for data plan. Even 1G for line 2 should be enough.
Rest you have to use max wifi to make sure you remain within your limits but I dont see it finishing that quickly either.

Since I'm a total techy noob here, let me see if I understand you correctly..as long as I am connected to a wifi network, then whatever I'm doing on my phone will not count towards the data package, correct? It's when I'm out of wifi, like in the car, out somewhere etc that the data package kicks in? Once the 1G is exhausted, what happens, the speed just slows down or are their overage charges?
Everything you understood about Wi-Fi connectivity is right. Your speed will slow down after 3gb limit, but no overcharge. You will be able to send and receive emails without any issues.
Please note that in T-Mobile, your GPS uses your data, so unless you dont use your GPS a lot, I would say avoid using your phone gps, though you always would have updated maps available, unlike your car or standalone gps unit.

Now what’s ticking me off is the $27/mo extra to upgrade to a new phone
We’re both overdue for new phones, but I don’t like this new way of doing it…sure, it’s $0 up front, but $27 a month? Whatever happened to a one time $199 for the phone…ugghhhhh..why is this all so complicated
I pay 120 for four phones. Unlimited talk and text for all, 3gb data on two phones, and 1gb data on the other phones. T-Mobile has the best pricing plan

^ Husband wants the s5 and I’m probably going to stay with apple…next logical step was to upgrade to the 5s…I have a 4s right now but it’s been acting up. I can’t back up to icloud…I tried to restore and all that jazz and when I went to the apple store they said the software is corrupted and it’s probably time to change phones
My main reason in staying with Apple is because my eldest is starting middle school this fall and his schedule will be changing (early drop offs and late pickups for band practice etc) and I need to be able to keep up iMessage with him through his ipod. We’re not quite ready to get him his own phone yet.
Sounds like a good reason, but if you anytime want to switch to Android, you can always use blackberry messenger app that now supports all the major devices

That is true. I am paying my $20 a month for the phone plus I have the JUMP insurance that I pay.

Actually that is better in a way. You are not locked into a contract anymore. When you leave return the phone if it still has a balance and its all good.

TMobile has awesome plans… But their coverage is so spotty. Considering how reliant we are on our mobile devices now, it’s really unfortunate behind TMob is.

True. There is no way to win all. You have to weigh in everything to make the decision. In out city tmobile has pretty good coverage. Believe it or not ATT was worse here. Verizon is the winner in coverage hands down but they are very expensive. Over $150 for single phone.

If you’re in the local area in your city chances are your service would be good. I have been a big fan of Tmo for years as well.
They also have Wifi calling, so if you don’t get any signal it would switch your calls and SMS so you can use the local wifi.
Also, you can roam internationally and get 2g data coverage for free. So lets say you land in Dubai, you get out and you can send a text to KhattiChikna without the needing another SIM or wifi.
Also about GPS, the data usage is just when your maps updates are downloading. GPS itself doesn’t use any data packets (this is for TLK too). So if you are using apps like GPT Status (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2) you are not incurring any data charges.
