Help! Trying to look my age.

I need advice to look my age. I’m 37 and people often mistake me for being in my twenties. When I tell them about my teenage children, they don’t believe I even have had children. I had the same problem when I was in my 20s. People used to call me a teenager and often said that my children were my brother and sister. They still often call my children my brother and sister, only now they say I’m 20-something. Almost nobody believes me when I tell my true age.

I understand it can be flattering now and then and of course it’s allright to look younger, but it does give me all kinds of troubles. (please don’t make me explain that part)

Now, my clothing is already quite conservative, even when I’m looking nice. I always make sure my clothes fit my age. I also tried different hair styles to stop looking 10-15 years too young. I tried different buns and twists for example. Didn’t help much. People still often say I’m not in my 30s and that I don’t have children, etc. This creates various misunderstandings in daily life. (my life seems to be full of misunderstandings . . . )

So, what can I do? Perhaps another style of dressing, a certain piece of clothing? Or is there a hair do which really will make me look my age? Any real advice is appreciated.

Color your hair - white :)

Re: Help! Trying to look my age.

What kinda misunderstandings might be created by looking like a 20 year old? I don't get it.

Maybe it's not the looks..it's your attitude?

Re: Help! Trying to look my age.

or wear hijab? That would add good ten years to your age.

Re: Help! Trying to look my age.

Hijab adds years to age ?

Re: Help! Trying to look my age.

Naa - i dont agreee

Hijab can Hide Age ;)

Re: Help! Trying to look my age.

Depends how one's wearing it. (No make up, no skinny jeans etc etc)

Re: Help! Trying to look my age.

I thought the hijab made me look younger :hmmm:

Re: Help! Trying to look my age.

I thought so too, but as Hareem said, depends on how you wear it I suppose.

Re: Help! Trying to look my age.

Gain weight, wear aunty type dresses, (agree with a comment color ur hair white or grey lol)

Re: Help! Trying to look my age.

Sahdia jii, if you wanna look your age…start ‘acting’ like one…act like an aunty…

-volunteer to give advice without being asked for it
-criticize younger generartion
-interview potential girls for rishta to one of your sons

Re: Help! Trying to look my age.

Yes, KKF, that is perhaps the way to do it.

White hair colour won't help if my face doesn't have the wrinkles, besides, we have many young people here with white coloured hair. I've had white strands of hair since I was 15/16. I have worn hijab, and that didn't make me look older either. I never wear skinny jeans, I almost never wear tight clothes. And weight I did gain, once on purpose, but after that because of health problems. That didn't help either. Now I'm going back to a healthy weight, since I don't want to damage my health.

Perhaps I really should change something more about my behaviour then. Though sometimes people have told me, that I behave like someone who is much older than I look, and then they asked if an older person was influencing my behaviour. So I failed in that too. I seem to fail in many things, nowadays. Perhaps that will change, sometimes you're in a negative spiral and it takes a while to get out of it.

Anyway, thank you for all the advice. And the jokes, I needed a nice laugh.

Re: Help! Trying to look my age.

^ :)

you seem to have a solution less dilemma.

you claim an already mature demeanor and dress style. Have white/grey hair and dont wear makeup. I guess live with what you have then?

Re: Help! Trying to look my age.

to be honest, enjoy while you can. You don't have much time left. Maybe in few years, your figure and appearance is bound to change drastically for the worse.
