Ok, so i’ve been having trouble sleeping for as long as i can remember…I survive on minimal sleep… Usually 2-3 hours on a good day, i just stay in bed awake staring at the ceiling, So far i’ve checked on the kids multiple times, read a couple of journals, surfed the net, ran on the treadmill, listened to classical music on ipod… I’ve tried to make myself tired but nothing works…my mind is constantly stimulated!! when i was younger it was fine, but now it’s getting beyond ridiculous… What are your tips to help me get a good night’s sleep? I’ve tried natural stuff like pillow spray, but that makes me sneeze, and milk but that gives me stomach pain… Is there anything else, or do i really need drugs from the Doc?? My hubby is a Dr, and he’s always telling me i need drugs… But i try to stay away from unnecessary medicine at all costs…so tell me your natural remedies now, as it’s 4AM here!!!

get rid of all that. Work out close to bed time keeps you awake.
My father was Doc too he was very careful with medicine. But some time he let my brother take valum5 1/2 or full pill. Say , if her was too tired to sleep etc etc

Start reading namaaz, shaitan will make you tired and sleepy within 4 nafls .. I am not kidding, try that.

^Im guilty of that.. alot of times when I start praying Isha, all I can think about is to finish it quickly and head to bed because I start getting sleepy. Once the namaz is over, so is the sleepiness!

never use drugs for that please, once you are addicted, your life would depend on these drugs only....
anyway, do onething.. exercise alots, walk atleast 3 kms before sleeping and as soon as you wakeup do little exercise and then go to bed, after taking shower.

hey here are some things I had read about that help in insomnia
1, Keep bed only for sleeping purposes..That means do not read books or watch TV while lying on your bed.
2,Try not to sleep during the day.Even if you do try to limit it to half an hour maximum.
3,Try to go to bed at the same time everyday,This helps to set your body clock so that when that time comes your body knows its sleeping time
4,Do not exercise before going to bed.Try to exercise late afternoon but not before you sleep.
5Try not to drink too much of coffee in the evening

Tried counting sheep, and cows and bufallos and chickens…in different languages…several times…when i read kalimah i finish, rest, then start reciting the quran in my head…in english, then i do it in arabic… so from doing something that is supposed to be relaxing, i then begin to stimulate my mind again… ![]()
If i get rid of all that, i am left in bed staring at the ceiling…and i really don’t want to take drugs, but i think i may have to now ![]()
Again, i would find this stimulating…
I read namaaz before going to sleep everyday… i feel energised, rather than sleepy…
I exercise throughout the day… walking, running, boxing, running after the kids…

Drugs are good. I would go for the drugs. Last year when I was having major issues sleeping due to stress my GP wouldnt give me drugs till I cried and said that I paid taxes too and deserved them. I only needed to take 2 nights. Can't remember the name.
Nope … no drugs at all. It’s an audio program with several mental exercises in the form of meditation.

Intoxi, i wasn't calling the Silva Method a drug method, i meant that i may have to resort to drugs if nothing works....
I've tried meditation....heck i go to yoga classes once every 2 weeks...i just called my instructor and told her if she has any advice, and she said that i just concentrate on my breathing.......she told me about this breathing exercise (Sajal, give it a try...)
2-to-1 breathing
This breathing exercise relaxes the body by subtly stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system, thereby inducing a state of relaxation.
As you lie in bed, gently slow down the rate of exhalation until you exhale for twice as long as you inhale. You can coax a longer exhalation by contracting the abdomen slightly.
Don’t try to fill or empty or empty the lungs completely – you are simply changing the rhythm of your breath.
In the beginning it may help to count to six on the exhalation and three on the inhalation, or four on the exhalation and two on the inhalation (or any other 2-to –1 ratio you find comfortable).
Focus on the smoothness and evenness of your breath, gradually eliminating any jerks and pauses.
Counting Breaths
Using the effortless 2-to-1 pattern described above, lie in bed and pay close attention to you breath. It should flow smoothly, evenly, and continuously. When the pattern is well established, take:
- 8 breaths lying on your back
- 16 breaths lying on your right side
- 32 breaths lying on your left side
Apparently, very few people get that far to completing that exercise....i'll try this tonight....

PM, I've been like this since i was a kid... an over-active mind...constantly thinking about anything and everything....i think about one thing, then i jump to something else, then something else etc.... i can rarely wind down and relax...the only times i get really tired, sleepy and can sleep for at least 6 hours is when i'm really ill.... and illness rarely hits me! :(
Just curious.
1-do you have short attention span too?
2-When saying namaz can you concentrate namaz?

just a question are u stressed about sum personal issue as that happens to me when i am tensed up bout sumthing?? i think you shud go and see a good counsler as no harm in taking advice hun..also when u in bed just say darod sharif and close ur eyes and keep on saying it inshallah it will help but please do try to see a professional.:)
