Re: Hello, This is Tech Support. My Name is Richard

So what is it that you needed help with? Your DSL/Cable modem or a wireless router?

Btw... Linksys has horrible tech. support.

Re: Hello, This is Tech Support. My Name is Richard

you must be VERY rich

Re: Hello, This is Tech Support. My Name is Richard

^ Why do you have to call tech support for it? Their routers rarely go bad.....:)

Re: Hello, This is Tech Support. My Name is Richard

musta been the “obvously white” guy with the revolutionay two-wire technology.

woman, you have a DSL line, connecting to a modem-cum-router. NO FIBER OPTICS ANYWHERE within a 100 feet of your home.

Re: Hello, This is Tech Support. My Name is Richard

Linksys is the number 1 router. The best and easiest to configure.

Cisco all the way :k:

Re: Hello, This is Tech Support. My Name is Richard

No, they have the whole neighborhood connected that way. We weren’t given a choice as far as I know whether to go fiber optic or some other connection.

Sadiyah, I don’t have a modem. Or at least that’s what these guys also tell me :bummer: They say that the fiber optic system bypasses the need for a modem.

The were also selling her beach front property in Arizona.

Re: Hello, This is Tech Support. My Name is Richard

Queer call Bellsouth and ask them about their fiber optics lines. Its supposed to be the latest technology around - its not found everywhere according to them.

I definitely know that I have a fiber optics connection, because that's something they always ask me before troubleshooting my problems.

Re: Hello, This is Tech Support. My Name is Richard

seems like they have the centralized cable network in the area and you are basically getting a cable connection out of a modem from somewhere… you just have to hook a wireless router from it by bellsouth :konfused:

Re: Hello, This is Tech Support. My Name is Richard

shush mr brownie!! that white guy was right. PCG do have broadcast tower on her roof.

He might be a DSL by Verizon?

Re: Hello, This is Tech Support. My Name is Richard

PCG, if you have high speed then you must have been provided with a modem by your ISP.

As for Linksys' wireless router, I've had a few too many problems with it. I found their tech support a little lazy and I had to literally force one of the tech support guys to help me update the firmware.

Re: Hello, This is Tech Support. My Name is Richard

That's the thing - I DON'T have a modem. I was confused about all this a month or so ago when i was hooking up my new router. So then after much confusion and talking with various tech guys, we found out that the reason I'm not understanding the directions that come with the box, is because they're not meant for fiber optic lines.

Apparently, fiber optic lines don't use modems. You just need a router of some sort to get your wireless connected. I sure as hell know there is no modem here. I even asked them if there is some internal modem...but they were like no...its a fiber optic line, you don't need one.

I'm like oook.

Re: Hello, This is Tech Support. My Name is Richard

I am very aware of that technology DSLx it is; and fiber optic line come only to the broadcast tower. In your area each house must have a Wi-Fi enabled router to connect. no fiber optic is coming directly to ur house (why its called two wire technology, becuase now router uses TWO wires in ethernet adopter)

Re: Hello, This is Tech Support. My Name is Richard

So how many boxes do you have at home that help run the Internet for you?

Re: Hello, This is Tech Support. My Name is Richard

Verizon???

Re: Hello, This is Tech Support. My Name is Richard

I'm not saying that fiber optics cables are coming into my wall. I'm saying the connection is based on fiber optics technology, so this 2-wire router they've come up with they say is specifically meant for this fiber optic-based system.

Re: Hello, This is Tech Support. My Name is Richard

What is the difference between an adapter and a modem
