Re: Heartbreak

Um, just to clarify, my problem is my toy dalek broke, woe is me. I'm trying to distract myself from the terrible pain caused by his loss.

I'll give a few generic examples, and you can advise me for each?
Heartbreak caused by generic existential thoughts; life is a boxing match, society sucks, blah blah.
Heartbreak of the romantic kind.
Heartbreak caused by the realization that we are not as in control of our lives as we like to believe.
Heartbreak caused by stupidly falling over and dropping your beloved dalek down the stairs and breaking him in two.

CM, cliches!

waleedhbk, I'll never buy another dalek, never!

T1000, eh, I'm kinda used to the the xbox and pc games.

Razzmatazz, sure go ahead, LOL away at my pain.

Re: Heartbreak

sorry!

but according to you examples it sounds more like depression than 'heartbreak' =/

Re: Heartbreak

are you suffering from all these issues?

Re: Heartbreak

Ah, don't be sorry, I'm just teasing.
Sure, these kind of thoughts can lead to depression, but they don't have to, especially if nipped in the bud. I was reading something a little bit sad, that along with my dead dalek just made me think of the upheavals our poor little hearts have to go through throughout life. The big stuff is bad enough, but the little things are tricky too.

Re: Heartbreak

Manisha, sorry didn't see your post. I'm suffering from the last one. The others, not so much. But I am interested in hearing peoples thoughts because they are not really topics that desi people talk much about in any depth.

Re: Heartbreak

what's a dalek........i have no clue

Re: Heartbreak

Dalek's are from a British tv show called Dr.Who. They are the protagonist's nemesis. They are very cheesy and rather wonderful; they lack emotions and go around saying 'exterminate!'
So you see how important this all is??

Re: Heartbreak

But that is the beauty of cliches. They are in fact valid as a generalization. Chocolate and Ice cream give you a sugar high and release those happy chemicals. Endorphins I believe. For a guy a break means he needs to validate his sense of worth and manliness with a new conquest.

Re: Heartbreak

I can't argue against the validity of your point. So basically guys get to have ice cream and new conquests, damn you all!
I don't eat ice cream though, and chocolate too is a rare craving, so I'm basically screwed.

Re: Heartbreak

Well its what gives you closure. For some it is crying their eyes out, others it is shopping. It goes person to person but cliches are the bottom of the barrel common denominators. But they do not apply to all.

Also a chick knowing what a dalek is rare.

Re: Heartbreak

So it's like the statistics thing. It's easy to predict and see patterns in a group of people, but individuals vary.

I don't know about closure, time usually does the trick for me.

Eh, more of the world should be aware of the awesomeness of daleks.

Re: Heartbreak

Grab a sufi book!

Re: Heartbreak

Mowlana El Topo does have a nice ring to it.

Re: Heartbreak

did you bury this 'dalek'? maybe that will help with the closure?...
