When it comes to marriage should one use his/her heart or brain. Ideally both but what if they conflict, which takes precedance.

Listen to your heart or your mind but most importantly listen to that listen voice in you.......the sixth sense. the ESP the down right gut feeling!! But if your gut is telling you to go ahead with adrug addict then your gut is all messed up you should then listen to friends and parents

Neither. Listen to your friends who've already been divorced. Listen to the accountants who specialize in hiding assets.

Wrong I went with mind and parents while all the time I had a feeling there was something wrong. and boy was my gut feeling right!

If you are a mature person, I mean settled in your career and life, settled completely in your desires for what you want in life - then its safe to follow your heart. If you have not yet attained these things then you need to be really watchful and follow your brain. Even in the very best of situations when there is the best of hopes and intentions for a good future together, those who marry too young are far too susceptible to growing apart.

there is no substitute for heart. it is heart that makes sassi or heer cross river ravi on a pot, why would she try that if she was brainy? if you want to be famous you should go with heart, there are no stories about girls who saw the river and thought i should save up money for a boat. if you are a boy you dont have to do anything, the girl is the one who has to choose between boat/pot.

well first listen to your brain...if the person isnt evil or malicious, and is someone you think u have a future with (i.e. u dont have irreconcilable differences) then pursue the matter and totally let your heart be your guide.

Believe me your heart doesnt lie....just b/c our brain is where our smarts are, doesnt mean our heart is dumb!

again, my anology of a car can be used here as well. let your brain be in the driving seat, and your heart/ passion be the horsepower that carries you fwd. n who knows maybe it will be a slow comfortable ride, maybe it will be a fast bumpy and scary ride...but either way atleast you can be at ease that b/c u used your head first, the person isnt evil and so different that at the end of the ride you both will end up at different places...and not home together!

i am trying to be poetic....is it working? i feel with "love" matters...one has to try to be poetic ... no?

That would normally be the right thing to do, but I am not sure it would apply to marriage situations.

You could wait and find someone perfect or you could wait and find no-one appealing to your heart and head and just have wasted your time. Perhaps you should acknowledge the limitations of ones mind, and simply surrender to the joys that the heart brings.

I personally think that if you find someone that you are 80% happy with then that is about as good as it gets unless you are a lucky few or infatuated with the person so much so that you don't see the negatives. The 20% you have to compromise on and work on in a relationship.
