So for the last year, I have joined a new gym and I go about 3 times weekly. I joined yoga classes (2 times) and then comes nutrition. I watched Oprah 2 days ago and now I am even more convinced that the food we eat in America is actually not so good after all.
If any of you watched that show with Dr. Mehmet Oz, you will realize that half our kitchen closets are full of junk and we are feeding off of absolute junk most of the time.
This show has been a real eye-opener and I hope that through the changes I make in my lifestyle, I can hopefully become more healthy and fit.
So, changes I have made recently :-
a) working out regularly, walking (at least 4 times a week)
b) skim milk/low fat instead of full fat
c) more whole grains (whole wheat pasta)
d) less soda
e) more water
f) portion control (meals)
g) snacking on nuts and granola instead of candy, chips etc.
h) less meat, more chicken and fish, turkey.
I have already lost some of my post pregnancy weight (about 2 dress sizes)
Its so rewarding to see that little changes in our lives can make a huge affect in the long run. I hope that I can motivate others also.
P.s. if you have not watched that Oprah show, please keep an eye out for it. It was really a big wake up call.
It's because the oils they contain should not be heated- almond oil for example. It is an unstable oil. When almonds become roasted, the almond oil changes and becomes hydrogenated almond oil. And we all know that anything hydrogenated is bad for you.
I've begun going to the gym on a regular basis again. I only have time to go twice a week, but I do 2 hours of HARD work out followed by 20-30 minute run on the running thingy (threadmill?) Combined with a good diet u start feeling more fresh and healtiher very quickly. Its a well known fact that americans have the worst eating habits. Where does all the junk food originate from :p A funny example a friend told me about was that the sodas u can get at the cinemas are so huge that even the smallest size is bigger then the biggest size u can get here! Shizzle in the hizzle!! How the heck do u guys eat and drink all that shizzle!
I almost never drink soda. Drink tons of mineral water its the best thing! Keeps u clean inside and that shows on the outside aswell.
I’ve started playing tennis about 2-3 times a week. The days I’m not playing tennis, I walk/jog and I do tae bo. Those Billy Blank ‘Boot Camp’ DVDs are excellent workouts.
I also drink 2 litres of water a day and substitute coffee for green tea. My trainer told me not to drink the tetley/mass produced green tea, but the authentic stuff that is all leafy. It actually tastes a lot better too.
Pretty much everything we eat these days has loads of toxins, so watch what you eat. For breakfast, I have yoghurt with granola and berries … but apparently, those are loaded with carbs. I still need my calcium though so I’m gonna continue eating it.
i go to the gym twice a week for an hour and dance/yoga for relaxation twice/thrice a week.
-gave up soda, sweets, preservative wala stuff, limit canned foods etc
-no red meat, no deep fried foods. no white bread (although i dont follow this religiously. i really like hunter beef and the occasional cheesecake or tiramisu)
-try to cook myself so i know what went in my food.
-buy organic eggs/dairy and only wild fish (never farm raised)
eat more veggies and legumes and have chicken if i really crave it once a day....
-i also quit my 6 cups a day coffee habit....switched to green tea
-10-12 glasses of water
but i dont think im going to quit stuff i really love like cheese or theatre butter popcorn. although a tub is like a gazillion calories.
the one area i seriously lack in is sleep...i wish i could get more of that.
barfee its actually easier than it looks. just dont do it all at once. quit things gradually. and take time out for yourself. cuz organic shopping and cooking really do take up time and energy initially...later on u'll become a pro. maybe u can switch to spending money on organic yogurt lolz....
I stopped playing tennis 2 weeks back as I was away at a conference for a week and this week my tennis partner went on vacation. So last thursday I started swimming (20 laps= 2 km) and a brisk after dinner walk 4.5 kms in 40 minutes. I havent changed my diet. Lost 1.75 kgs in one week :D despite 2 dawats. I had gained a lot during my conference week due to all the dinners and lunches at fancy places.
