Pashtuns want to rename NWFP. All power to them. But then let Hindko-speaking Hazara become a separate province of Pakistan.

Re: Hazara should be a separate province
Ridiculously impractical!
There are no 5 or 6 linguistic/ethnic groups in Pakistan, there are 70 to 80 odd, if all of them start asking for their own province hell would break loose.
There are Hindko people in Punjab too, is Punjab willing to give them a province of their own? There are also Potohari and Seraiki people in Punjab all of whom are vehemently opposed to being referred to as Punjabi and take it as a grave insult.
Let’s come to our senses now and not divide our country any further, let us unite as brethren in faith and nationality and learn to share every inch of Pakistan so that a person of Pashtun descent doesn’t feel out of place in Lahore or Karachi, or a person of Mohajir descent in Peshawar or Quetta, or someone of Punjabi descent in Thar…
Let’s oppose the naming of any region after any one ethnic group even if they be the majority, it’s outright discrimination, every province in Pakistan should be given a compass name like NWFP so that every millimetre-squared of our country is the home of any Pakistani regardless of his ethnic descent.
Let’s kill our pride now or we’ll be the ultimate losers, we’ve all had ancestors amongst who they were both rulers and slaves, but let bygones be bygones because pride in ones forefathers is a grave sin in Islam coz we are who we are as indivduals, live for today and tomorrow as Pakistanis or we’ll drown if we keep looking back, accepting Pakistani as our primary identity is the best course of action if we want to succeed, there’s nothing in us for ethnic identities, we can’t afford to give into our egos anymore, if we stay hung up on our ethnic prides we’ll only have our selves to blame for our loss and indeed some of us are backward today because of our own narrow minded outlooks yet we blame others as a convenient scapegoat, nobody can help us if we can’t help ourselves, can’t have your cake and eat it too, if we’re going to be hung up on our ethnic ways regardless of them being backward and outdated and not change a little then we’ve no one but ourselves to blame, a bit of change in priorities has to come in, kuch paaney ke liyey kuch khona parrta hai…
Sorry I went a bit off tangent at the end but it all ties in…
So yeah in short lets not divide Pakistan, and let's use compass names all over, I can swear some smart arse is going to tell me Punjab is only named after rivers and Sindh after a river but don’t! Because these names now have ethnic connotations, we’ve got to use our brains and go for compass names all over the country, proper names are only practical in a country where all ethnic groups are evenly spread through out or where the whole country is ethnically homogenous, Pakistan isn't yet and if we keep going the way it never will be, let's do our bit to try and tone down the multi-ethnic idenities, such things are for educated first world countries to baost about we can't afford none of that crap, we have to start prmoting the Urdu-speaking Pakistani idenitity all over.
Aye, aye I've been enlightened.

Re: Hazara should be a separate province
Baba your thread itself is a cut and paste job from the anti-Pakistan sites.
Provinces or states serve two purposes:
In Pakistan, provinces or states now are more about the source of identity. As you probably know very well, destroying someone’s identity is the biggest source of instability. So the short answer to your $tupid post is: No, No, Heck No!
Re: Hazara should be a separate province
Hazara was only attached to NWFP by the British in the last century for adminstrative purposes, and most of it’s people still do not feel any common identity with the Pashtun heartlands. Balochistan as a province was only created in the early 1970’s also as a an administrative unit, but the northern 1/3 that is Pashtun-speaking feels no common bond with the territory as a whole. They refer to this land as ‘Southern Pakhtunkhwa’, and have long wanted it to be a separate province as well.
Let the Hindko speakers of Hazara, and adjoining territories in Punjab have a separate province, and carve out a Pakthun-majoroity province from Upper Balochistan (and give them the option of joining a larger Pakhtunkhwa i.e NWFP minus Hazara). That will only strengthen Pakistan not weaken it, as it will make the provinces much more cohesive administrative units, and allow their peoples to play a more integrated and proportionate role in Pakistan as a whole.
Re: Hazara should be a separate province
I really appreciate your concern for Hindko people because my family is Hindko speaking (albeit of Pashtun tribes on both sides of the family, we adopted Hindko later due to intermarriages with Hindko women), I’d rather neutral names nationwide but if not it would be nice for us Hindko people to have a province of our own, but I really do think it’s best that we let these ethnic identities die down and let all the races of Pakistan assimilate into one uniform national ‘Urdu speaking Pakistani’ ethnicity and culture, me if anyone asks me my identity (when in Pakistan) I’d say plain simple Pakistani with Urdu as my language, ethnic or caste background is completely unnecessary and irrelevant in the modern world, such bullcrap has no place in a country what wants to become urban and developed.
Until we don’t become one nation we’ve no chance of achieving anything substantial, look at my other country Britain we ruled all over the show after everyone on the entire island became part of a single pan-British cultural identity, before that the Britons consisted of multiple cultural or ethnic groups like in present-day Pakistan we have Punjabis, Pashtuns and so forth… but the Brits became one because it was in everyones favour, present-day Britons are not racially homogenous because they’re actually made up of Romans, Vikings, Celts, Anglo-Saxons, Normans and of course Pakistanis (who are yet to assimilate culturally into mainstream society but it will happen), they assimilated like people should and created a new identity for themselves to be respected, there’s still a few handfuls here and there who speak horrendous horrible sounding Celt languages like Gaelic and Welsh, thank the Lord these languages are almost extinct.
Whether the cultural groups of Pakistan like it or not their ethnic identities are not going to remain forever, change in demographs is inevitable anyway so there’s no point in holding onto such silly things so stubbornly.
Re: Hazara should be a separate province
No we dont need it,, we will leave the ethnocentric BS to other groups
Re: Hazara should be a separate province
That’s sensible. :k:
I don’t see the thrill in being Punjabi or Sindhi or Pashtun, national identities are always going to come up top anyway and nobody gives a toss about ethnic identities, we’re just Pakis to everyone else.
Even in Afghanistan the so called homeland of the Pashtuns, Persian is considered superior to Pashto and is the lingua franca, even the Pashtuns speak Persian now or are bilingual, the Taliban tried imposing Pashto across the country but failed miserably. In East Punjab, Punjabi is losing ground to Hindi even though it’s associated with the local Sikh religion, their Budday are always complaining about it. Same is the case with Punjabi in Pakistan, but of course Paki Punjabis are more willing to adopt their national language because they’ve more sense.

Re: Hazara should be a separate province
Actually I dont see any reason why Seraiki speaking people shouldnt have their own province.. Except one, Pakistani provinces are based far to much on ethnicity..
Provinces shouldnt be based ethnicty this only promotes divisions and ethnic nationalism at the ewpense of National unity…
Re: Hazara should be a separate province

Re: Hazara should be a separate province
How are these forums moderated??? i can see lots of Indians abusing Islam, pakistan, calling names, spreading crap etc etc on this forum and there is nothing much done to their posts and they rarely get a ban. Amazingly some of those posters have 1000's of posts on this forum.
