Having people who share your perspective

How important is it to have people around you who share your perspective on something? Something important to you.

Re: Having people who share your perspective

I think it is more important to have people around you who do NOT share your perspective on something. That way the other person and/or you will learn about new ways of looking at the subject and broadens your perspective.

If you only surround yourself with people who share your view, you will always think it is correct. Even if it is not. Because nobody shows you a different view then.

Re: Having people who share your perspective

Quite important. I think it gives us a deep satisfaction when our beliefs are validated. But I only need a handful of people for that.

I guess its more important for me to know that my perspective differs from that of the herd mentality.

Re: Having people who share your perspective

What if the people surrounding you are stubbornly dedicated to their perspective and gang up on you to convince you too, when their argument is clearly not good enough.

Re: Having people who share your perspective

I'd agree with this. Having no one agree with you can get kind of frustrating.

Re: Having people who share your perspective

That's why it should be a balance between the two. Not either or.

Re: Having people who share your perspective

That makes sense.

Re: Having people who share your perspective

Don't you think its tiring to be around people that don't see eye to eye with you?

Re: Having people who share your perspective

Exactly. You're just forced to censor yourself, pretend to be someone you're not, just so that you don't stick out like a sore thumb.

It gives me a sense of superiority though. It makes socializing with the handful of people who share my perspective all the more fun. You can have a good laugh at the society at large.

Re: Having people who share your perspective

What if laughing at people isn't something I want to do?

Re: Having people who share your perspective

do what makes you happy - I personally think you need a good mix of both.
But these shouldn't be the decidiing factors in who your company is.

I for one - enjoy the company of intelligent people whether they see my POV or not.

Re: Having people who share your perspective

Yeah. The key is to stay away from conversation topics that irk you. Just keep quiet, listen and wait for the topic to change. :biggthumb:

Re: Having people who share your perspective

^^ :hehe: are you being sarcastic?
I meant that in the most abstract way.

And I do enjoy my share of Twilight discussions about edward cullens and his awesomeness.

Re: Having people who share your perspective

^ and I can't disagree more on the subject of how awesome Edward Cullens might be.......
yet I see eye to eye with Muniya on so many other things that are, at least to me, so much more important......

Re: Having people who share your perspective

My group has a mix, which I think it good…but our conversations usually lead to some heated arguments because of different opinions/perspectives. But I still love all of them so it is all good :phati:

Re: Having people who share your perspective

My people sound like your people…

Re: Having people who share your perspective

That reminds me of my older brother. Once I went with him to shoe shop.
He tried one shoe on and asked me “how are these shoes”
I said “you can not find more stupid shoe in this shop”

He goes to shopkeeper “please pack them” :omg:

Re: Having people who share your perspective

Don't mind if they have different perspectives. A lot of my friends have vastly different views on things as compared to me but we get along and at times that helps me learn a thing or two about stuff I otherwise wouldn't bother about.
