Its allowed .. I have seen many women in Pakistan going through this process. There is no reason for it to be disallowed.
Secondly, I read some asking why adoption is not allowed in Islam. As far as I have heard. it is not liked in religion but adoption can be undertaken. The reason is that people sometimes do not do ‘adal’ or ‘insaf’ with the kid. And if the couple has their own kids then it is very rare that a woman would give equal love to her adopted child. In that case, any mistreatment will be a gunah. It is not possible in my opinion, to love someone else’s child as your own (In the presence of your own kids). However, exceptions do exist.So adoption can be done if you think you will be able to treat the child fair.
