this clearly shows there are MORE males in Pakistan than females. Hence if one man married 4 women…the calculations are as follows:
Total Pakistan population: 165,803,560
Total Male Population: 84,923,774
If each man married four times then only 20,219,946 men would be married
This would leave 64,703,828 WITHOUT any wife! 64,703,828 men would not even be able to find one wife and hence will remain unmarried all thier lives…(simply because other men are greedy enough to want 4 wives).
65 MILLION MEN IN PAKISTAN WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO FIND A WIFE DUE TO POLYGAMY! HENCE IF POLYGAMY WAS MORE COMMON, IT WOULD LEAVE THE MAJORITY OF THE POPULATION WITHOUT A WIFE. IT WOULD LEAVE THREE QUARTERS OF THE POPULATION WITHOUT A WIFE.
The same would be the case in any country. so the men who are promoting polygamy…have you ever considered that you may be left with no wife at all if they all get taken by other men before you?!!
I think most muslims understand that polygamy isn't promoted over monogamy in Islam.
Its the question of what circumstances is it allowed under, and can lust be a valid reason for polygamy. That's what usually gets everyone's panties in a twist.

the circumstances it was allowed under is clear....during the time of war when the population of males decreased enormously....in that case it would make sense....hence why in prophets (pbuh) time whoever got married more than once...got married to widows....for a REASON....cuz their husbands died in war....they didnt do it for lust (unlike some guys today who dont even understand the meaning behind things)....nowadays when the population of males and females is equal....polygamy would not be allowed....because it would leave the MAJORITY of the population without a wife.....which would cause MANY other problems in society.

again it shows there are MORE males than females under 65 years of age (i.e. marriageable age). Most countries show similar patterns....isnt this enough PROOF AGAINST polygamy? what more evidence do you need?

wrong or right dunno but its very hard to do justice among all wives.n these days how many actually do that?even arabs r having a change in their point of view reg hav more than 1 wife at a time.

Phat, I think that's exactly what Impulse is trying to say. That polygamy practiced by most muslims would be disasterous. Given the population statistics. Might differ in a war situation, which would leave countless women husbandless. Its actually happening in Darfur. Pretty physically stressful. One woman has to take on 2-3 other womens' kids - breast feeding that many kids when you yourself are starved is biologically really stressful. Although one could argue that in Darfurian refugee camps, the men don't make any income, so one man taking on multiple wives wouldn't do a whole lot of good. But muslims in surrounding countries potentially could take on a wife as charity.
I think we can all agree that the biggest problem we ladies have with it is that men who are practicing polygamy aren't do it right and fairly.
If some people marry and keep more than one wife then there would be a steady decrease in prostitution. And husband and society would give her respect and honour rather than using like as tissue paper.
Islam does not like prostitution, and cant allow women live a life which is demeaning and degrading from their high status.
Of course Islam is not an idiotic religion, however some dump people out there who assume that Muslims or Islam promote polygamy. Infact Islam Allows conditional polygamy and restrict muslims to monogamy if they cant fullfill the conditions.
I reckon most muslims are sane individual, who understand their religion a bit. and Dont make sweeping wrong assumption that All muslims men plan or wish to marry with 4 women.

READ WHAT I WROTE BEFORE YOU START ACCUSING ME OF THINGS....I said polygamy is NOT allowed just for lust....the reason it was allowed was at the time of war when the population of women was MUCH more than men. if you read what i said above....i said its acceptable in that situation. The Prophet (pbuh) married all widows....apart from one wife.....doesnt that tell people something if people used their brains???
Lets see now, no normal guy (independent, hard worker, caring) can ever convince 4 women to marry him, if one isnt a tough nut to crack. The only people who generally end up having multiple wives at the same time are mostly in backward areas, and they arent really the 'love the girl, get to know her, ask her out, and pop the big question' types, so they either end up using their influence or rishteydaars to marry again, and make some innocent little girls life miserable and not to mention end up with 30 bachey. Since Islam would never encourage making others life miserable, so polygamy today is a big NO!
