I think few groups apart form totall nutjobs like the TTP, Taliban, Shamil besayeves sytle Chechen Warlords take things too far, groups like Hezbollah have come a long way though from small scale terrorists to national resistance forces.
you are right...that the 'nutjobs' are doing it mostly......because it has become a trend or something.......the same sort of nutjobs (afghan talibans) and others never did this before........the trend started after Daniel Pearl and then a Burg guy in Iraq........and it got on somehow in the nutjob community.......
on the other hand i have come across some beheading videos made by south american criminals...some nazi/racist supremists in europe etc too...........so its not only confined to the nutjobs 'terrorist'...but a general phonomena all over the world........

Beheading and recording it is indeed a sick thing, I do know of groups that behead prisoners to save much needed bullets but that is part of war and they certainly make every effort to ransom or exchange thier captives beforehand... only killing prisoners as a last resort.
Some of these people who kill another person and record it are quite frighteningly doing it just for publicity but it's also for some self serving pleasure. I find that sick.

What are views on simply beheading prisoners though? Some countries like Saudi Arabia and autonomous tribal regions across the world hold public executions as a detterent punishment which I can sort of agree with, and I understand that beheading prisoners during war as a last resort is often a better option than letting them starve or risk jepoerdazing the cause of resistance but is it still acceptable to most people?

Well if the prisoner is convicted for murder by a court of law, and the victim's family does not accept blood money, I don't see anything wrong with it. Beheading is a better way of execution than hanging or the electric chair.

Shame on these nutjobs who have shamed the highly prized skill of properly beheading prisoners by making very unprofessional videos of such acts... all illegal practicioners of this skill should be themselves beheaded. :)
one was that sawat video where the men were flogging (beating up) the young girl (and the video was made by someone in the crowd from their mobile). The other was where a girl and guy were being stoned for something. and some films and dramas too where i have seen beheading. all this was very painful to watch.
