This construction is currently going up right next to the kabba etc.
Seems rather hideous to me… Saudis never pay attention to anyone before they do stupid things like this.

Re: Have you seen what there building in Mecca?
Looks like one of thos eoverly ostentatious Soviet era buildings... Really dont like this... Imagine looking up to see that thing!!
Re: Have you seen what there building in Mecca?
yep they are.
sad. really.
Re: Have you seen what there building in Mecca?
It completely dwarfs the kaaba... something like that should never be built anywhere near it... The person should gravitate towarss the Kaaba, not some ugly oversized hotel.
Re: Have you seen what there building in Mecca?
It’s residential/shopping/business/hotel complex.
The Abraj Al Bait Towers, when completed, will be located in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. It will be the tallest building in Saudi Arabia and one of the tallest buildings in the world, surpassing the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia which held the title as world’s tallest building between 1998 and 2003.
The Abraj Al Bait Towers will be most notable for its prime location. The site of the structure is across the street from the entrance to the Masjid al Haram, which houses the Kabaa, the holiest site in Islam and the building towards which all Muslims face during prayer. In fact, bait in Arabic means house, in reference to Kabaa. As a result, the Abraj Al Bait Towers will have a large prayer room capable of holding nearly four thousand worshippers. It will contain a five-star hotel to help accommodate the over two million pilgrims who participate in hajj each year.
In addition, the Abraj Al Bait Towers will have a four-story shopping mall and a parking garage capable of holding over eight hundred vehicles. Residential towers will house permanent residents while two heliports and a conference center would accommodate business travellers. In total, up to 65,000 people would be housed inside the Towers.
Re: Have you seen what there building in Mecca?
qayamaat is near by... *sigh
Re: Have you seen what there building in Mecca?
Why is this a bad thing? You'd rather see tents, sand and starving people next to the Kabah? If* nothing else*, it would atleast make Hajj more feasible for the common man.
Re: Have you seen what there building in Mecca?
Keep such tall structures farther away so that it doesnt over shadow the Masjid...
Build better transport to ferry people to and from this hotel.. Or, build smaller hotels all around... But this thing is just to close and to big.
Re: Have you seen what there building in Mecca?
is this what they r thinkin abt?? or did they actually start the construction
Re: Have you seen what there building in Mecca?
^Constructoi has been going on for almost a year now I think... This is reality:(
Re: Have you seen what there building in Mecca?
Dont know what to make of this project..
Re: Have you seen what there building in Mecca?
whats wrong in it????
old people and sick ones who cannot walk long distances find these aprtments/suites close to haram very relaxing....
there r lots of such buildings around the haram, this aint the fast and surely not the last either....
instead of being thankful for such projects and other waqf projects u r complaining here!!!!
Re: Have you seen what there building in Mecca?
Hadith:
*Prophet (pbuh) is reported to have said that "these bare footed, naked and poor shepherds shall match each other in making tall buildings".
Re: Have you seen what there building in Mecca?
Besides being ugly, I think it is simply TOOO grand. This i not like the other building s surrounding the mosque, it will be about the height of the Petronas towers. It would have been a better idea to build smaller… Also, proper network of convenient transport would be effectrive in helping the elderly and handicapped to get to their hotels etc. Saudis could easily afford that… Leave the area around the mosque clear…
Re: Have you seen what there building in Mecca?
With more and more pilgrims flocking to Mecca the Saudis have no choice but to increase buildings for accomodation. Mecca is within a valley so the only way to construct is upwards. However buliding lavish hotels goes against the purpose of hajj and umrah. It is very easy to become lazy in these hotels and spend most of your time there. Secondly not everyone will be able to afford the expenses for these high rise buildings, notably pilgrims from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and African countries, which incidently make up the bulk of pilgrims.
But I wouldn’t worry about these hotels being an eyesore. I mean when you’re on the ground floor within the Haram you can hardly see it. You’ll be too busy with other things and the only way to see it if you look up at a very tight angle and why would you want to do that when you’re engaged in ibadah? The only problem is when you’re on the outside section of the Haram when its clear to see. Heres some pics I took of the construction from the outside ground floor…
And one I took from the first floor, inside section…
But I agree with the point the area around the Haram should be clear. During peak periods, many pilgrims from poorer countires camp outside on the streets dangerously creating very little space for masses of pilgrims to pass. Because of this the crowd density increases, tempers rise, people get crushed and there are mini stampedes. By building these hotels right on the doorstep of the Kaaba is severely limiting the space around it and is commercialising the whole area. It was bad enough seeing Macdonalds, KFCs and Pizza hut outside, but lavish hotels and buildings somewhat dampens the feeling of you visiting ancient sacred land. Why build a friggin’ shopping mall?
The Haram and its surrounding area should be left simple.
Re: Have you seen what there building in Mecca?
Agreed..
Re: Have you seen what there building in Mecca?
i have lived in hotels near the mosque and i have lived in apartments away from it…
although there were buses moving every 5 minutes between the apartments and the mosque, i did not find it convenient, cuz boarding a bus every time is not easy…
if u r alone it ok, but when u have a family with u, an old mother who cannot move without a wheelchair, small children who cannot spend long in the mosque, u like to have a residence close to the mosque…
Re: Have you seen what there building in Mecca?
Its all a matter of how the transport system is desined… If you provide proper easy access then it shouldnt be a problem..
For example, why not have special trains for elderly and handicapped, a monorail system. You can build it in a way that easily accesible. lifts for wheelchairs, perhaps have it right in the mosque so people dont even have to go outside.
I jus dont think its impossible to have a good convenient transport systm, just requires good planning.
Besides, a little hardship is worth it. In the past people used to go through worse.
Re: Have you seen what there building in Mecca?
^ u dont need to be an engineer to realize that a rail system is almost impossible there....
