Have you ever questioned your belief?

We all do this with others faith. May be its necessary to justify / strengthen our own belief / faith.

Have there been any circumstances, when you questioned your own belief or felt that you haven’t get satisfactory answer about certain questions and think that there are certain aspects in your faith you can’t present before others in justifiable manner?

How did / do you overcome such feelings?

Re: Have you ever questioned your belief?

Learn more about what you believe in. The more knowledge you have about what you believe in, the easier it’ll become to present it in a justifiable manner. More importantly , your faith will become stronger.

Re: Have you ever questioned your belief?

Agree that knowing more and more leads to satisfaction, but there are areas in our faiths for which there is minimum information available.

Think about the concept of believing in unseen God (present in various religions). This is where such thoughts arise. What if its not true! I think that this is a thought we all face at a stage in our life.

Re: Have you ever questioned your belief?

Good topic. I think everyone has phases in their life where they doubt what they believe in. It might be due to traumatic events or just too many questions which are no adequately answered and which may lead to doubt.

Re: Have you ever questioned your belief?

of course not!

Re: Have you ever questioned your belief?

May I know reason behind such a strong faith?

Re: Have you ever questioned your belief?

childhood training/teaching by my dad, studying at a Muslim university, reading scholars, watching Islamic videos and finally my brother’s influence on me with whom i’ve lived many years.

it’s like i feel that i’m riding in a top of the line Mercedes car and i’m in a great car that will take me to my destination safely, comfortably and reliably. what else one needs to be successful in this world and in the hereafter.

May Allah accept my faith, ibaadah and grant me success in both the worlds…aameen.

Re: Have you ever questioned your belief?

aameen. so you never came across with the question ‘what if its not true?’

Re: Have you ever questioned your belief?

alHamdolillah, never!

Re: Have you ever questioned your belief?

Doubting/questioning is the work of the shaytaan, to misdirect you and make you question Islam.

Yes, every muslim will go through the highs and lows of their faith, i.e. at one point in their life they may question something about it and wonder is it true, is it worth it (speaking from experience). Other times it may be high where you have the utmost faith.

The trick is to keep studying Islam and keep educating yourself. The better the knowledge, the stronger the faith.

I had such instances too and whenever I would doubt some aspects of Islam, I would research until I could find an answer. The Qu’ran has all the answers too so I read that with meaning/interpretation too.

See it this way, doubting Islam which further makes you research the answers making you dig deeper and deeper, is a way which makes your faith stronger. It’s a blessing in disguise I suppose.

Re: Have you ever questioned your belief?

Absolutely. But then again I had friends beheaded and the ones that did it did it in the name of Islam. One always has to question ones faith and beliefs and not the faith itself. Two very different things.

Because if you do not question what is told to you, you don’t research it yourself, you are doing a disservice to Islam. Simple as that. We are told that if it is education we can even learn from the Kuffar (the chinese). Shows how much Islam focuses on education and questioning is part of that.

Re: Have you ever questioned your belief?

yes.
One time I stopped believing all together.
Friends called me *kafir *:phati:

I have been caught by element of surprise by non muslim many time, each time I had to go back and look deeper. So yes .. I did question.. I did want to know more etc…

Re: Have you ever questioned your belief?

Those doubts are your test. Whether they lead you astray or make you stay would tell if you passed the test.

Questions every sane mind has. The key is to keep patience and stay intrigued, keep learning & seeking knowledge quietly. If you’re sincere, sooner or later the questions are answered by nature without even asking anyone or having someone to answer. You could see / experience the answers the next minute, days/months later or sometimes even years. You have to be very strong in your belief… in TAWHEED.

Re: Have you ever questioned your belief?

Right about that. Mine were answered when I least expected it and had stopped looking for it too.

Re: Have you ever questioned your belief?

this topic remind me of this hadith

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah may peace be upon him) observed: The Satan comes to everyone. of you and says: Who created this and that? till he questions: Who created your Lord? When he comes to that, one should seek refuge in Allah and keep away (from such idle thoughts).

Re: Have you ever questioned your belief?

When it comes to verses and Hadith about violence yes but then when you learn the historical context it makes more sense.

Some issues about women such as testimony of two women equaling one of a man’s - that I still don’t get but it was probably a time dependent thing. Women weren’t as well educated as men, however if one woman only witnesses a crime and that’s all you have to work with then it makes sense her testimony alone should be sufficient. I don’t think this is a practical issue in muslim courts anymore anyway.

But beyond these small theological details the main issue is muslims are so irrational, superstitious, and careless for each other’s lives and general hygiene and justice in society that these are the bigger fish to fry. Not squabbling over history behind some verse.

Now I’ve read segments of the bible and Old Testament and there is stuff in there that makes no sense. Poorer verses on women’s rights and stuff like we should marry our rapists. Wth? Can’t fathom that God had a son, that makes no sense. Maybe it was a metaphor reference to Jesus’s birth that no you don’t have a father but you have a Father and it seems this idea got twisted into a biological fatherhood.

Islam’s story of prophets and repeated reconstructions of the same faith thru different prophets from different time periods makes most logical sense. And if Allah is not behind Islam and Islam was just someone’s imagination (that too Quran fabricated by an illiterate man who can’t read or write? ) then how did Allah let the Islamic empire happen?

Anyway, there are some things I may not fully understand but doesn’t mean Quran isn’t God’s word.

Re: Have you ever questioned your belief?

Yes

Just remember imam ali saying then

One who knows himself , knows god

Look into myself, tend to study/observe myself

And don’t have to present anything, action akhlaq speaks

Re: Have you ever questioned your belief?

Good thread. Most people don’t in any meaningful sense.

Most of the questioning is done to confirm beliefs that people inherit. This results in nothing more than confirmation bias. That’s clear from the number of people who actually convert to a different religion or leave religion altogether. What are the chances that an overwhelming majority of people are born into the true religion?

Any inquiry into the veracity of beliefs you inherited can only be meaningful if the starting point is that it’s all false or that I’m willing to abandon those beliefs if they don’t make sense.

Most people are unwilling to start there or to go to that extent, so either there is zero questioning or it’s an exercise in rationalizing beliefs that you already consider to be true.

Re: Have you ever questioned your belief?

Questioning your belief is most of the times considered as a weakness. People don’t understand the importance of clearing minds. I think people who get clarity by questioning are more satisfied with their belief than those who are confused with certain aspects of religion by opting not to question the belief.

May be such confusion leads to use of force instead of reasons when these people try to convey their beliefs to others.

Re: Have you ever questioned your belief?

I had a very steadfast belief growing up in a very knowledgeable and learned religious family. My faith has shaken up over the past few years.
i really envy those who never have moments of doubt.
