I've survived minor tremors twice in Pakistan ... once I didn't even realise ... but the other time I did feel it.

Tornados. Quite a few of them actually. North Texas is smack in the heart of Tornado Alley.

Most recent one was this last March. I was at work (at my kids' school). We were in crouched position lockdown in the hallways with over 400 students for over 2 hours. It was awful. Building sustained minor damage. Quite a few staff vehicles in the parking lot were trashed by the grapefruit sized hail that accompanied the funnel cloud. That was an awful day.

Tornados every year and just last week.

I have been part of atleast three earth quakes and neither time, I felt anything, like no shaking, seriously. Everybody told me ground was shaking and I was like, no dude there was nothing of that sort :vivo:

There was a tornado we witnessed in the June of 2009.The weather appeared to be perfect and within minutes a tornado touched down.We were in our home,and AH remained safe but it caused too much damage and destruction in the neighborhood.We witnessed huge old trees on the ground and homes nearly completely gone just a block away from where we live.It was a mess.

I think the Nor'easter of last October will be a natural disaster.Our home sustained damage because of heavy tree limbs falling on the roof and we were without any power and heat for 5 days (some people lost it for even ten days or more..!).We stayed at our home (there was no way of getting out) for the first day and night and since there was no power and heat,it was hard to stay warm especially with a 1.5 yo with us at that time.All night long we just kept on hearing snapping and loud sounds of tress snapping and falling somewhere.
It was a huge mess and teh first time in my life I actually hated snow with a passion...:(

Jokes apart, I said I did not hear or feel any shaking (or rumbling). It's the OTHERS who did. So, I will pass your advice down to them :D

Those of you mentioning earth quakes you didn’t even feel should know that doesn’t count. :mad: Even though I have felt earth quakes a few times they didn’t cause any damage so I don’t consider it facing a natural disaster. I mentioned in another thread that I have faced major snow storms though.

Earth quakes , Land sliding(on way to neelum valley with heavy raining and river on one side) and once lost in jungle( spend 2 days with out food - this is off topic but thought worthy to share)

Witnessed and experienced some minor earthquakes on trips to Pakistan. Other than that I have never really faced a Natural Disaster, Alhamdulillah.

I experienced the 2005 earth quake in Pakistan. Horrible horrible day!!!

I survived the Ojri camp explosions in 1988 in Rawalpindi. We were 6 boys standing in a circle when all of a sudden a buzzing was heard....I saw up and a missile came right towards us. we all ran in different directions and within 4 sec, it hit the center of our circle....penetrating 5 feet in the road. thanks God it had no war head attached....otherwise we were all gone....I had minor bruises....went to hospital for injection and saw people in bad condition....I was in bed when 2005 earthquake struck Rawalpindi. It was really terrifying....

Share with us a little more Hadeel. Where in Pakistan were you at that time?

Though not a natural disaster but that was one horrific day. My khala's family used to live in Rawalpindi and all the kids were at school when that happened. It was a torterous day for the family till everyone came back home as it was a no-cell-phone era.

The day before it all happened we all were in Lahore at a wedding. Early in the morning (around 4 am) me and my brother drove back to Rawalpindi due to his work. He left me at home and went straight to work around 9 am......at 10:00 am this incident happened to me.....my parents tried to reach Pindi but Army didn't allow anyone.....all cars were stopped in Kharian.....

Last years Snow blizzard in Chicago(2011), yea I call it a natural disaster because we couldn't commute to any place, and colleges schools were all closed. And the tornado last march in Dallas.
