Naughty you complain about some using the term nigger....which they shouldn't .......but you are no better by using terms like Paki which are also racist.
I am sorry paki is not a curse everywhere! in the US!!! pakistani's like me refer to ourselves as paki's it is not a derogatory word in the least. I call myself a paki! it has absolutely no derogatory connotation to it at all, and i hope it remains that way here! So i am proud to be a paki!

Anil made a point about white clothing being civilised because white people are civilised...black clothing is uncivlised becuase black people are uncivilised...

Too me its only a matter of clothing and personal preference...i wear baggy clothes and i used to have cornrows for ages...but on the flipside i am extremely well educated and have never had trouble with the law...
I have no problem with people having personal preference...its when you assume everyone who dresses one way is uncivilised and criminal that you piss me off...

Naughty....You live in the UK and Paki is a derogatory word here...I don't know about N. America....so you are being racist....it does not matter if you are half Pakistani or not....many of us particulary in the UK will find the word Paki offensive.
Nigger is also a derogatory word in the UK as well.

I totally agree - in the UK it is quite normal for Pakistanis to call one another Paki - in a good-natured way. It is simply a means of identifying with one another - 'I'm a Paki, you're a Paki' - so what?

Nobody who knows the racism that we Pakistanis have collectively suffered.....being called Paki....spat at.....having walls sprayed with Nazi symbols and having Paki Out wriiten on walls....having windows broken just because they were Pakistanis...would ever try to make the word Paki acceptable.

Its really not a complex subject mate...can you not see how a Pakistani saying 'Paki' to another Pakistani is different to white person calling a Pakistani 'Paki'...
Its not about the term its how the term is used...when black people say nigger to one another its term between them...when other races use it its used in a derogatory manner...

^ Let me understand this.
Say you have 3 people....A, B and C. Now A and B can call each other Paki or Nigger but C cannot....why because of the colour of his skin....this seems like racism to me against C and against white people. Racism does not become acceptable if it is aimed towards a White person.
A few people may find it acceptable to call each other derogatory words but I think the majority don't. There is nothing cool about it. Its OK living in London and perhaps not having heard the word Paki used by racist....but I grew up in a small northern mill town where I have seen first hand all of the things that I quoted in my previous post..and in my mind the term is derogatory....and if anyone uses the word Paki in the context that you suggested then they are insensitive to fellow Pakistanis.

Actually Arshad5 - I wouldn't call it twisted logic personally - I would simply call it a difference of opinion or interpretation...
What you've clearly failed to grasp from my post is that my observation is: when Pakistanis call one another 'Paki' in the UK it is goodnaturedly...it is not intended as an offensive term - therefore it is not taken as one - there is an understanding...you know pot calling the kettle black etc etc
When a non-Pakistani person calls a Pakistani a 'Paki' - more often than not it is intended in a derogatory manner and offence may/can be taken at it.
Besides which, if we dilute such a phrase and make it acceptable in our communities and alter it's meaning amongst our people, it loses its potency and can't really be used easily as ammunition by racists.
I took offence to it at one time, but now if someone calls me a Paki - I'm like 'so what? - well observed Einstein - didn't need you to tell me that'. Totally dismissive of it - no reaction - no use to the racist
And actually, I have experienced much of what you've described in your post ie. the racise abuse - I've been spat at and my family's been terrorised by brats who have nothing better to do than go round looking for someone to make a victim...and I don't have a problem with other Pakistanis using the word Paki - for me it's all in the interpretation and I don't let it bug me
But hey it's all about personal opinion - so my sincere apologies if any offence was taken as none was intended

Going back to my previous example of A,B and C. Lets say you are all friends so if a white friend calls you a Paki...is that ok...because he is saying Paki in a good natured way?
Lets say then another White guy also calls you a Paki....you are crossing each other in a corridor and he says 'get out of my way Paki' and you get offended and he says that he has just being friendly and did not mean any offence. He heard you calling each other paki so why could he not also call you a Paki?
Where do you start drawing the line? Just saying if it comes from a Pakistani then it is ok but if it comes from a white person is racist....that is reverse racism by you.

The example that you mention shows the word being used in a derogatory manner...
'Wassup nigga'...is different to 'Get out my way nigga'...The first quote is friendly...the second is derogatory...
The word isnt really the issue...its how the word is used...
