Re: Hatred for all things 'Black'
thanks for sharing ur nice ideas and thoughts, Farwah.
i will extend the argument.
Farwah is so right logically and pragmatically.
it is human nature to be picky on others, without having made any contact with them as a person. we are shallow at times, and that we should avoid. because one wrong word, one wrong action or expressed thought, can mellow good hearts and create resentment.
maybe, the person in the subway did not get sleep for a long night shift of work, so he slept in the moving train, thinking to himself, it is safe among humans to sleep for a bit.
we cannot stereotype. i am learning it too. yes, we should call a spade a spade, and have our privacy, but we cannot all be judgmental all the time.
Pakistani culture is not about being NOSY in other people's matters, but somehow we can evolved the practice of this poking attitude - we provoked just to see how much others get upset. this mentality has to be put aside and eradicated.
if we are living in an adapted country, we should not only welcome a bit of reasonable accommodation in living and working among people of all back grounds here, but we can most certainly teach people through our interactions that we, are nice people.
some people argue that identity does not matter, that the only criteria for interpersonal interaction should be the rightness of our decisions and the fact that we are dealing with each other as "humans" - so humanity will matter, not religious back ground and or national affiliation.
fine. that argument is not unacceptable or invalid. But, what i will propose is that the identity of a person, a group of people only gets recognized in a positive way - when people from that group are nice, friendly, trusting and trust worthy people.
unless, we get out of our cacoons and make non muslims, non- Pakistanis our friends, just like we have friend ships with our dosts and shailees, we may never be able to help dispel their misconceptions of who Paksitanis and Muslims really are - nice people. we will still be nice as humans, but it will be an additional plus, that the muslim and pakistani identities are associated with us, and we with them - in a good way.
that said, not all blacks or whites are bad people, just like not all arabs and muslims are.
we will need to walk the walk and talk the talk. & for the sake of our own purity of conscience, we will have to do it with the same - honest intention, well-meaning resolve to do just this.
& if still, something seems unreasonably demanding or objectionable on the grounds of someone becoming too reliant on us, we can deal with that too.
i would have asked the gentle man, by waking him up, kindly, that sir please hold ur head, i did not mean to wake u up, but i wanted to say this, lest u missed ur stop :>
there are always nice ways to deal with even strangers.
hope i made sense.
