Hate Crime Assailants Due in Court Tomorrow

New York, N.Y., (11/02/2006)—CAIR-NY is urging American Muslims and other people of conscience to make their presence known tomorrow at the court date of two of the defendants who brutally attacked Mr. Shahid Amber this past Sunday, October 29.

The racially motivated attack was initiated with religious and racial slurs directed toward Mr. Shahid Amber, a 24 year old Pakistani, by some 15-20 members of the Jewish community in the Midwood section of Brooklyn. The assailants who were charged with gang assault and a hate crime, have been freed on bail.

Mr. Amber, who will require reconstructive facial surgery, suffered a broken nose, two blackened eyes and numerous other injuries as a result of the beating, which was executed with brass knuckles.

We call on the Muslim American community to stand by Mr. Amber tomorrow and insist upon federal hate crime charges against the alleged attackers.

wow...cant be there but can write letter of support. This is horrendous, flashback of when I was jumped by 3 rednecks in college during the desert storm days, if it were not for some guys from TKE fraternity, I may have had a similar situation.

It is sad, but fortunately the people responsible have been caught. They need to be convicted and sentenced..so that justice is done and seen to be done. It will make others think twice before deciding to attack other muslims and make them somewhat safer. The muslim community needs to come out of this stronger.

Idiots like the ones that attacked Mr Amber need to be vigorously confronted. Muslims have to go through tough times in order to become stronger and safer. We cannot afford to turn a blind eye to these events. We need to be focused, united and organised. We need to use the system to our advantage, rather than having it working against us. If neceassry we need to ensure that the system is changed. We will never achieve anything by turning the other cheek or turning a blind eye to events.

Luckily I haven't had to go thru such a thing, that maybe cuz most think of me as hispanic, or maybe cuz there are so many Muslims in our area, that others have gotten to know that we are just ordinary people. Hope they get punished, and was wondering did the local news cover this, and if they did, did they mention that the attackers were Jewish extremists.

So now jews are committing hate crimes in the US. I thought they only kept their activities limited to Palestine. Even though the Pakistani guy had his face smashed, the real victims are the 15-20 jews who attacked him.
