Re: Hate crimes against muslim children in British schools
Thats not good enough , ali. I have 3 littles to protect. The fragile "protection" they'd receive over there if we moved over would do more harm than good by calling even more attention to the fact that they're blue-eyed. But here, their little pre-k and kindergarten classes learn all about Eid, the foods of pakistan, the culture and clothing of pakistan. They even sang an Eid song at the HOLIDAY concert (note, NOT "christmas" concert). This type of thing just doesnt happen over there. Can you envision a pakistani school teaching about christmas or teaching christmas songs to the students to sing - even if theres only ONE christian student in the school? I dont see it...sorry. Pakistanis are so much more racist than americans, even after 9-11. I'd love nothing better than to move over there and indulge my boyz in an extended family setting....but they'd get SO much more hassle over there than they would here being Muslim boys in a Christian community. That should hopefully raise your eyebrows just a bit.
Actually they do teach about Christmas..
During my childhood my parents took me to Pak for 3 years and we learnt about Christmas, it was brief but we did learn about it…
Actually in my class there were two Christians, an extremely pretty but snobby girl called Mahwish-Queen whose family was from Murree but they'd settled in our district, she dressed completely Western and so did her mom who picked her up in a flashy car, and there was also a bare ugly snotty nosed boy called Bilal who got free education from the school because his family were domestic staff at the school, both were never treated any different by classmates or teachers even though even at that young age we all knew they were different from us because they would say "Ham namaaz naheen parrtey, ham Girjaghar mein geet gaatey hain (we don't pray like you guys, we sing hymns at the church)".
As for celebrations there's no need for that, I don't care for Christians celebrating Eid, it wont help me sleep easier at night, it's not racist of they don't, every community has its own festivals.. All we want is a bit of respect, at my Mosque White people scratch sexual words onto the door, or throw in a pig's head (complete with apple in mouth) during Ramadan whilst we were praying Taraweeh prayers, we've had booze bottles thrown in, once a White guy told me he knew a builder who plastered a gala/pork pie in the Mehrab (prayer niche) he was building in a local Mosque.. That's the kind of thing we don't want, just some respect..
My mom taught me to respect all religions but only believe in and practice my own.. That's all we want a bit of respect, we don't expect them to join in our celebrations and we shouldn't have to join in theirs.
As for blue eyed Westerners, bullying them is unfathomable in Pak, contrary to what the media tells you about Muslims/Pakis being barbarians going around looking for Westerners to slice their necks off, Westerners are actually almost 'worshipped' in Pak, if a White tourist visits Pak everybody is in awe of him/her because they think he/she is exotic and they'll be hospitable to him/her even paying for their transports fares. This is despite the fact that the Westerners colonised/enslaved us for so long.. The bad taste Pakis/Muslims have for Westerners is recent, it's wrong but Muslims have their reasons like the West’s support/double-standards for Israel, invading and putting puppet regimes in Muslim lands etc. even then most Paki Muslims will differentiate between a regular Westerner and the government/army/spies… If a hostile Westerner enters our lands he gets what he deserves but if somebody comes as a guest or to live with us it becomes a matter of honour to protect him and treat him cordially. That's also true for many other Islamic countries too, compare that to the treatment we "Pakis", "Sand Niggerz" and "Camel Jockeys" get in Western countries (not all Western countries/areas of course but certainly the one I've lived in).
