Hashim Amla vs Muslim Cricketers of IPL

I found this post somewhere and agree with the views so would like to share here…

Hashim Amla vs Muslim Cricketers of IPL

All the Cricket fans must know Hashim Amla(South African Cricketer). Hashim is a devout Muslim and plays Cricket for South Africa. He objected to the advert for Castle Lager beer on the South African team kit and has been allowed to wear a shirt without the logo of Castle Lager(A alcohol/wine company).

Muslim Cricketers playing in IPL.

Two franchises of IPL are mainly sponsored by a liquor company Royal Challenge. Banglore’s main sponsor is Royal Challenge, And all the players are subjected to put logos of Royal Challenge on front of their shirts while Rajhastan’s team players are subjected to put logo of Royal Challenge on back of their shirt along with a small-logo of Kingfisher(Another liquor company) on shoulder of shirt.

I am hugely disappointed to see Muslim players playing in IPL and by not showing any resistance to not to promote alcohol companies. I remember Wasim Akram was highly criticized 4 or 5 years ago when he worked in ad of a alcohol company.

Muslim players who have put logos of alcohol product so far in IPL.

  1. Wasim Jaffer: Played for Banglore
  2. Muhammad Kaif: Played for Rajhastan
  3. Yusuf Pathan(Son of Imam of Mosque and brother of Irfan Pathan): Played for Rajhastan.
  4. Kamran Akmal: Played for Rajhastan

Other Muslim players who will join in league with-in few days.

  1. Misbah-ul-Haq: In squad of Banglore(Which is named after a alcohol company and has main sponsor i.e Royal Challenge).
  2. Younis Khan: In Squad of Rajhastan.
  3. Sohail Tanvir: In Squad of Rajhastan.

It will be really good to see if these players don’t promote alcohol companies.

*PS: Don’t confuse with “Fly Kingfisher”, Fly Kingfisher isn’t a alcohol company, Its a Airline. *

Re: Hashim Amla vs Muslim Cricketers of IPL

why do you guys always have to mix religion with everything? These guys are not drinking the alcohol nor are they coming on TV and telling people to drink it. Its a simple damn logo on their kits cuz thats their sponsor…I dont see anything wrong with it :smack:

Re: Hashim Amla vs Muslim Cricketers of IPL

i think they sold out on principles and integrity when they even agreed to play in a league beginning with "Indian". why expect anything else?

Re: Hashim Amla vs Muslim Cricketers of IPL

**It’s a matter of principle, in Islam we aren’t allowed to buy or sell alcohol. Promotion via advertising and taking money from alcohol sponsorship falls under that umbrella.

players should be using their player power to stop alcohol sponsorship in sports just like tobacco sponsorship has been stopped in the past. There’s already too much under age drinking and smoking, using sports to promote these vices isn’t acceptable.**

Re: Hashim Amla vs Muslim Cricketers of IPL

You answered your own question. Islam says we cannot buy or or sell alcohol. These players are not selling or buying any alcohol. Cricket is these people's profession and their job and in any sport you have different sponsors. Whether its alcohol or something else, these players are not telling or forcing the people to buy or sell the product.

There is muslims who work for companies in North America and Europe and some of those companies sponsor alcoholic parties for its employees or does bbq's which have pork in it, now does that mean we stop working for that company?

I personally work in the hotel industry and Mashallah I have been successful so far in this industry. The hotel I work for sells alcohol and has a bar in the some of the high end suites and when guests ask I tell them in these rooms they can find alcohol. Now am I wrong? Its my job, I support my parents with this job. The people who are gonna drink, are gonna drink even if I dont tell them where the alcohol is, and the people who dont drink, wont even if its in their room. Is a simple concept.

Like I said previously, its a mere Logo on the players shirt...dont make a big fuss about it. Don't make Islam look like such a tough religion in front of the world...people like you are making Islam look like an extremely tough and difficult religion to follow in this world. Islam is a peaceful religion so please keep it that way.

Re: Hashim Amla vs Muslim Cricketers of IPL

Hilarious! :rotfl:

Re: Hashim Amla vs Muslim Cricketers of IPL

:k:

Paki Guy bhai, even if the Muslim players playing for Banglaore and Rajisthan had opted not to promote their sharabi employers and their products, you still would have come up with another criticism. For instance you would say that it’s good that these players decided not to promote alcohol, but why they are playing for employers who are paying them using the revenues generated by alcohol business. Right?

Re: Hashim Amla vs Muslim Cricketers of IPL

I agree. Why are we always so quick and ready to ban this and that. It makes our religion seem impractical and intolerant.

The underlined sentence is the crux of the whole thing. These people are going to drink anyways. If not your shop or restaurant they will go and buy it from another shop or restaurant. I am no scholar but selling alcohol in countries where it is not banned (and effectively part of social life), is perhaps not wrong or unislamic....but what does our religion say there?

Some of my friends even believe that banning of alcohol is strictly speaking not required in Islam. Each Individual is responsible for their own deeds and if some muslims choose unwisely to drink alcohol then let Allah deal with them. As long as they don't drink in front of me (I can't even stand the smell of it) or force me to drink with them it does not bother me at all. Why must we always act like some kind of thekedars for everyone?

Re: Hashim Amla vs Muslim Cricketers of IPL

Much of this post is half truth. Royal challange is not the company, KingFisher is. Its owned by Vijay Mallaya. He also owns the KingFisher airlines and KingFisher beer. He has no stake in Rajasthan as far as I know. And rajasthan royal brigade is owned by a foreign company.
A week ago there was fatwa that muslims are allowed to fly KingFisher airlines though major part of the revenue come from the sale of the beer.
So that should take care of the religious part I suppose.
Besides I dont think its good to mix religion and cricket. Cricket is a sport and entertainment and I dont know wheather in Islam any type of entertainment is allowed.

Re: Hashim Amla vs Muslim Cricketers of IPL

u can ask any muslim scholar and he will tell u that it is indeed forbidden to have those advertisements....
as is working for a hotel that sells alcohol....

if anyone chooses money over religion then that is his/her own problem but the fact is that the above mentioned things r forbidden in Islam....

so well done amla!!!!
and others, if u r serious about ur religion, do follow suit....

Re: Hashim Amla vs Muslim Cricketers of IPL

agreed

Re: Hashim Amla vs Muslim Cricketers of IPL

one can also argue that watching or following an event in which alcohol is advertised is haram, because repeated exposure to the same advertisement can entice someone to start using it...

or one can also argue that living in western countries and paying tax there is haram, because part of that tax money is (indirectly) used to import/produce alcohol. As a matter of fact the repeated exposure to alcohol usage in such countries should make living in a western country haram :s

where do you draw the line is matter of personal taste, but that doesn't give anyone the right to denounce anyone else

Re: Hashim Amla vs Muslim Cricketers of IPL

Their earnings from IPL should be considered mashkook as well then not just the sponsors.

Re: Hashim Amla vs Muslim Cricketers of IPL

How would you guys have reacted if porn companies were sponsoring cricket matches? :p I am sure that'd been okay with some too.

Re: Hashim Amla vs Muslim Cricketers of IPL

Help ye one another in righteousness and piety, but help ye not one another in sin and rancor: fear Allah. for Allah is strict in punishment. [5:2]
putting logos on shirt is kinda helping company in selling drinks. why can’t these Muslim players follow Amla by not putting any such logos.

why one has to attend such parties or at first place has to work to such place where employees BBQ porks.

:rotfl:

Re: Hashim Amla vs Muslim Cricketers of IPL

Top Marks !!!

Re: Hashim Amla vs Muslim Cricketers of IPL

HAHAHAHA you guys are jokes !!!!

keep the religious insanity coming

Re: Hashim Amla vs Muslim Cricketers of IPL

How wud you guys react if a cricketer would opt not to wear a logo of cigarette company?

Re: Hashim Amla vs Muslim Cricketers of IPL

obviously it is haram to be endorsing alcahol in such a way. That point cannot even be argued its too clear. Its a matter or common sense in a society i think. I will give an example of here in the United states. I dont think any team will allow n e of its players, or the team as a whole will not promote alcahol through its players' uniforms. Nas a rapper refused to do an alcahol commercial, these are just simple examples where, u dont want to c role models promoting alcahol or tobacco.

Re: Hashim Amla vs Muslim Cricketers of IPL

Cigarette is probably not clearly known as haram as liquor, so it may not get as tough reaction.
