Hashim Amla 311* a South African test record

Scores a triple century, and that too while fasting…

well done mate! :k:

re: Hashim Amla 311* a South African test record

A tremendous feat but no he is not fasting
"For all of you who have asked, Firdose Moonda, our South Africa correspondent at The Oval, confirms that Amla (and Imran Tahir) are only fasting on non-match days"
It is just not physically possible to fast and play for 5 successive days of a test and Amla is well within his rights to make up for missed fasts later

That being said Hashim Amla has played while fasting in the past. Just not doing it this time around. It's way too tough in England this year (initial fasts are 18 hours long)

re: Hashim Amla 311* a South African test record

Ok thanks for the correction. I had heard that he was fasting as well.

re: Hashim Amla 311* a South African test record

amazing guy indeed!

huge total so far…637 for 2…i think they are awaiting for Kallis’ double century before declaring in time to try to win the game! wish Amla Bhai all the best!

re: Hashim Amla 311* a South African test record

Do you think it is humanly possible to fast for 18 hours (have a 6 hour break between fasts) and play a physical game like cricket for 5 successive days?

re: Hashim Amla 311* a South African test record

bro, i asked a question, no need to give me a lecture...ok?

btw, i believe it's a game, a pass-time and keeping fast is FARZ! one must draw a line and decide if he wants to play a game OR fulfill his religious obligations...i am NOT judging but i do NOT think anyone can qualify to skip FARZ ROZE for a game...it's NOT a valid shara'ii excuse/reason! you may disagree to which you have the right to.

re: Hashim Amla 311* a South African test record

It is not a lecture just commonsense bhai

It is sort of a duty for Amla to play for his country so Allah will forgive him. It is good, however, that he is fasting during non-match days. You can always make up for missed fasts later or feed someone as per my understanding

Besides who are we to judge? That's between him and his God

I can understand people fasting during ODIs ((although they w'd be well within their rights to postpone (match day) fasts or feed someone)) but 5-day test matches!!
I think that a ruling was given by Scholars that sportsmen can postpone fasting. From memory it was something to do with a German footballer-Mehmet Ozil.

re: Hashim Amla 311* a South African test record

thank you but strictly religiously speaking, this reason/'uzr is NOT a valid one for skipping FARD roza...sports is considered "laho la'b" [a pass-time] in Islam...he could have taken time off from playing during the month of Ramadhan...anyways...Allah is the best judge! let's leave it at that! :)

re: Hashim Amla 311* a South African test record

Coming back to cricket- congrats!

What an awesome guy!!! and an amazing knock..wish him all the best :k:

Re: Hashim Amla 311* a South African test record

is not the right word here, POSTPONING is..

There is a difference between playing sport in a gali mohalla and playing for your family & country

Cricket is Amla's bread and butter (he is a professional sportsman), not his pastime; it is his national duty and since he is contracted by the South African Board he cannot pick and choose which matches to play

Re: Hashim Amla 311* a South African test record

doesn't matter, brother...if i apply this logic then most people who do physical hard work will qualify to be exempt from fasting...is that what you are saying? of course not! Allah has made rules and we can NOT change it...there are well-defined situations where by you can SKIP a roza to be completed as soon as possible. you just can NOT declare yourself exempt from these faraa'iz. hardship does NOT exempt anyone from fasting...it may be his bread N butter but he chose it. so many other people are there who have far more harder job...like pedal rickshaw puller in 50 degree celsius heat in India and Pakistan.
