You won’t find this daal at English grocery stores (if that is why you are asking what it is called in english.) You’ll have to check the desi grocery store and they use green mash or sabat mash or sabat chiltay ke mash or something along these line.

Is it this one?

No, that are beans.

It is urad ke daal with green chilka.

Uff atleast we men are better than ya women , heaven sake yr crowd is asking about green daaal and rocket chillies , wo kaysi hote hain , huh ! :D

Here you go:

250 grams of green mash (or if you can not find, you can take black mash)
400 grams paalak (spinach)
Green rocket chillies - 6
Whole red chillies - 6-8
Zeera - 1 tablespoon
Oil for frying.
Garlic cloves - 6

Soak the daal in cold water for 2 hours after properly washing.
Then boil it with paalak (finely cut) and pierced green rocket chillies. If you like you can also add 1 teaspoon ground garam masala. Add salt to taste.

When properly cooked. Fry the garlic, red chillies and zeera in oil and put it into daal. Its ready for eating with plain boiled rice or roti.

But in the UK you can only find split black gram i.e. kalay mash ki daal ya kali urud ki daal.

It is also called black mapte bean.

In Pakistan green mash is only availble in Karachi. Rest of the country, we have kali mash ki daal.

These are moong beans. Its split can be cooked with qulfa as Aaish mentioned earlier in post # 17.

chipsy, i dont think its offtopic : i think they are talking abt the chilkay wali daal. The one that looks like mash btu has green mehendi color chilka on it. I have so much of it, this sounds like a good way to start using it. The other one that someone showed a pic of looks like moongi or something.
