Hanging out with men?

Re: Hanging out with men?

She gave the islamic viewpoint. Don't try to twist religion into something it's not. It's okay to put your hand up and admit what you do isn't entirely in keeping with your religion.

Re: Hanging out with men?

VERY well put! I think its a combination of 2 things (at least for me):

1) You start to realize that life is too short to worry about every single detail.
2) Sometimes you realize that up until now, you have or have not done something b/c someone else (parents, siblings, society etc) wanted you to behave that way....as you get older and gain education/life experience, you start to gain confidence in your OWN PERSONAL values/beliefs and become less afraid to follow them

Re: Hanging out with men?

Except it is not a religious viewpoint. Where does it say in Islam that you can't SOCIALIZE with the opposite sex? That you can't court one another and that you can't meet one another and discuss compatibility before marriage (definition of a date)?

If she meant specifically that you can't shack up prior to marriage, or that you can't get physical, that's different. That's not a date, though.

Re: Hanging out with men?

Hanging out with a male friend, alone, for recreational purposes. That was the OP.

Re: Hanging out with men?

No one has the right to judge you for what you do. Not even those "village-mentality" Mom's. But you also don't have the right to start making up your own Islamic rules to fit your life. Just because you do something in your personal life, doesn't mean you say it's okay to do Islamically. Your not going to sit there and say that you have more knowledge then then Islamic scholors/mufti's who spend 10+ studying the laws of Islam.
Talking before getting married to someone is to see how compatible you are to one another for marriage, not so you can be friends.
So the "village-mentality" Mum's may just be trying to raise pious children and to teach them right from wrong ISLAMICALLY.
There is a authenic hadith that says "when a man and woman are alone, the third person amonst them in shaytaan".
I don't mean to bash on you, but I don't think people should go around and say whatever in regards of a Religion because our words misguide others.
