So you know how when we don’t know what to call a dish we name it after what it was cooked in…
example:
Chicken KARAHI
BALTI gosht [as in a Balti shaped thingie]
Chicken HANDI
Sooooo
from now on, I shall call my daals Arhar pressure, Moong pressure etc., as they are cooked on pressure cookers. And Khumar’s calling her Omlette “Tefal Omlette.”
Also, today I made maash pateeli.
Tomorrow I shall make kabab aluminum [as I’m baking them in an aluminum tray]
Add yours.
Re: Handis and Karahis and Baltis…
So is that really the reason behind the names? I always wondered what the difference between karahi and handi is?
oh how about Gosht Pateela (instead of pateeli since it was big orr is that punjabi)
Re: Handis and Karahis and Baltis....
^ me too, I never got what the differences were, thank you for enlightening me!

Gumla gobhi , you can cook gobhi in a gumla(flower pot).
Chaalni poola-o , because my wife uses a chai key chalni to make the yakhni for her poola-o.
I am waiting for X2 to come and pitch for his Lota Gosht , he holds a patent and copyrights for this idea.

Good job guys!!!
See, all these fancy names you see in restaurant menus are just plain ol' salan type dishes that sound exotic because of the names. Total rubbish.

It’s these fancy restaurants that carry such names on their menu…such as Daal tarka…I mean which daal do you make without a tarka?
