RAWALPINDI: Lt-Gen (retd) Hamid Gul, through Maqsood Hussain Qureshi, advocate, has issued a legal notice to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairperson Benazir Bhutto under the Defamation Ordinance 2002.
Referring to media reports, Qureshi said that Benazir Bhutto, in a letter addressed to the president of Pakistan, has included the name of Hamid Gul as potential assassin, thus, tarnishing his reputation, defiling his honour and implicitly endangering his life at the hands of any of her over-zealous party workers seeking vengeance.
He said his client is a man of impeccable reputation and flawless patriotic credentials. He has a distinguished record of service and an exalted public image as a defender of Pakistan’s vital interests of which you ought to be fully aware as he served with you in the capacity of DG ISI and has maintained a cordial relationship with you over past two decades.
Qureshi said the baseless allegation of Benazir has caused him (Hameed Gul) enormous emotional distress as he could not believe that you, of all the people, would stoop so far below your position to project him as a common criminal.
He said the “demeanour in this case has been irresponsible, malicious and ill-conceived. It is feared that if your accusations go unchallenged his client’s family, including his future generations, will have to carry the stigma of a false charge. He said his client has inalienable right of defence and asked you to prove the allegations in any court of law or at any public forum.”
Qureshi further said that in order to settle the matters amicably Ms Benazir Bhutto tender an un-conditional public apology and the matter will be forgiven and forgotten or set up an inquiry commission, comprising three individuals of her choice to conduct a probe into the matter to her full satisfaction and make the findings public. BB has billions of dollars, so she will be quite a philanthropist when she hands it all over to the people after losing all these defamation notices. :)

naming part was valid only if they were successful in getting rid of her. they failed so she won’t make their names public. as for the 150+ killed, thats a matter worth ignoring. :k:

There is a great deal of biterness in Karachi that while she was safe in her bullet-prrof truck people were being slaughtered and maimed outside, because some nutter wanted to kill her. She knew that such an attack would happen, but she quite callously put so many thousands of people’s lives in danger.

hell i might even go as far as saying what we have at hand is the political version of 'Jerry Springer' so much being revealed, so much hostility! where's the political version of Steve when u need him....

I saw Hamid Guls interview on youtube...kind of like tell it all. The man can be very convincing.
but he's very politically minded. Hence GIK appointed General Asif Nawaz as COAS even though Gul was more senior which is just as well because otherwise we might have seen a military coup as early as 1993.
