Its as bad. Even father giving 8 years old boy (or mother giving 8 yo girl) a bath looks odd to me.
We have tried to train our kids to take bath by them-self from around the age of 4. We followed these steps successfully with our 2 kids
“Ok, I have open the water (at correct temperature) - wet your self and then call me to give you bath” (around 4 yo)
then to
“OK, I have applied the shampoo, rinse it and then call me to give you bath” (around 4.5 yo)
then to
“Take a bath and call me to check if you have rinse the shampoo properly” (around 5 yo)
finally to
“Go take a bath, dont disturb me I am watching game” (around 5.5-6 yo)
