Whether one agreed with his views or not (and i never did with his policies and views and held him and some other responsible for a lot of mess that we have today in form of TTP Pakistan), but I can say with full confidence he was a 100% patriot and served Pakistan army with commitment.
Condolences & prayers go to the family. He is no more in this world hence we shd pray for the departed soul.

He was devil in disguise. He played an evil role in politics of Pakistan, which was not unusual for these generals heading the top intelligence agency and misused their powers to ruin Pakistan. I am sorry he was not patriot but a mean person indulged in Pakistan politics while still in military duty to create yet another political party in illegal manner.

He was father of Taliban & said death of 50k+ people killed by Taliban was collateral damage in recent interview. I wish he was held accountable for his misdeeds.Having said that, my condolence to his family.

True patriot and played a big part in Pakistan surviving through one of it's most difficult periods.
Also played a big part in Pakistan getting nuclear weapons.

If Hamid Gul is the father of Taliban as the Taliban as a group appeared during the period he was DG ISI. What do we call the so called liberal Benazir who was the prime minister during that period?

One of the most favourite Generals of Mr. Zia, he was definitely the brain behind Taliban and remained a pro-taliban forever. Despite the fact he was made ISI chief in Benazir's regime, he had a special beef against her. And she used to consider him an enemy as well.
But yes he was a true patriotic and one thing which i liked about him the most was that he was never a hypocrite or a ass-kisser. wutever he had in mind he used to say it with no fear.
Afterall how many Generals we know who resigned from an active duty just because of disagreement on policies with Army chief!

Do you think she actually had any role in creating Taliban? Military has been in control of Pakistan's Afghan and Kashmir policy for decades & civilians leaders have minimum input if any (even now).

dear Bhai logo...not trying to act like Mr. Right (because i know how confrontational and stubborn i am) but as you guys know very well, we have a long lasting tradition in our culture to say good things about the deceased one, offer unconditional maghfarat and pray for the departed soul on the day of his death no mater how much we differ from him in his life. So a request that lets keep this thread non-political and non-confrontational. We will inshallah continue to discuss his policies, actions and implications in many separate threads for many more years to come.

You can find the timelines in my previous email, so hamid Gul was removed in 89 and Taliban appeared in 95/96? Both periods were during BB?
