I have noticed that Im very quick to get exhausted and also couldnt climb a set of stairs without half breathes. No Im not over weight. Rather on the slimmer side. So what could the possible reasons be? lack of work out? lack of resistance power? And how to combat that? please dont recommend extended workouts I dont think I have required stamina for that
kinda. My hemoglobin was low last year and I had to have 4 drips of iron. So this is blood deficiency? My hemoglobin is alright now, its 11 i think. Does that still make me anemic? :halo:
you are to the point. I got it checked about 2 months back and it was normal then. But I do have lost some weight and health since Im back here. I guess i need to get it checked once again
P.S: I just checked the general symptoms of anemia and I masha Allah possess more than many like low feeling etc.
Mirage if every thing comes out normal. Its your stamina you need to build. I have a permanent condition of anemia since birth. Alhumdulillah I have never had to be treated for it though.
If doctor says every thing is okay other wise then you need to start doing some cardio to increase your stamina. Its a general misconception that an over weight person gets short of breath easily where as a person on healthy weight can pass all fitness tests. My husband is on a very healthy weight. Most people will call him skinny. Yet when we started going to the gym together although he could lift heavy weights & all. He couldn't do have of the cardio I could.
You don't have to do extended work outs to build your stamina. If you like dancing, start from doing 6-7 songs non stop in a row. If its not cold yet where you live. Start walking from 15 minutes a day & slowly increase the time. Walk should be fast enough to get your heart rate elevated.
Fastest way to build stamina is skipping the rope or doing jumping jacks.
And always remember to inhale from your nose & exhale from your mouth. Even when you are climbing stairs. There is a reason all fitness trainer emphasize on this. When you have proper amount of oxygen going in your lungs you won't pant.
Bint e Naeem, much thanks for your valuable post. Well I dont know what makes me so scared of cardios and aerobics etc though I know they are a must for a healthy body. But its solely about health. Inspiron’s post was helpful in a sense that she made me realize the reason and I m convinced without even tests that maybe Im anemic with iron deficiency because I just had been so last year. My eating habits are POOR so I assume I should start from there. Maybe things would be alright if I start taking a single medicine for iron deficiency but I would rather control it through natural diet and ways. I read somewhere that fish is good for iron deficiency and so are lentils. green vegetables and salads too, (i would rather please someone may guide me better and correct me if im wrong anywhere). Now Im not sure which fruits have better source of iron.
cannot even imagine to dance, its just not in me. someone else also suggested walk. But didnt know it should be fast enough as to elevate the heart beat. Are you sure it will be alright and might not rather inflict any harm?
I still dont feel inclined towards cardio. I might do with a better diet and walk only
KKF: what are these tests for? you scared me :halo: I mean I already have a feeling I am anemic. What does that have to do with chest Xray and pulmonary function test? I thought anemia meant deficiency of red blood cells and iron. Ugh my knowledge of medical sucks big time.
**if your lungs, for whatever reason, do NOT intake enuf oxygen, thru normal breathing, your body feels tired and weak. i had similar condition a couple of months ago. my family doctor sent me for a pulmonary function test which determines how much air your lungs are taking in as compared to your lung’s full capacity…it’s a 20-minute test and you just have to breath in and out using various techniques which is measured by the machine.
you will be surprised that Asians [especially Indo-Pakistani] have about 20% less breathing capacity as compared to the Caucasians to begin with.**
X-Ray of the chest determines if your lungs, for whatever reason, has a shrunken/inflamed state. sometimes, diseases in childhood leave lungs with a scar and that causes less oxygen intake due to decreased lung capacity. **

my doctor prescribed inhalers and nasal sprays and that eased/helped my condition.

When you walk fast enough to raise your heartbeat a bit, you will be basically doing cardio. Cardio exercise literally means working your heart out & lungs as well. When you walk, dance, swim & your heart rate raises, it eventually gets stronger & that's what builds up your stamina. As long as your heart is not doing 170 beats per minute or more you should be fine. Do ask a doctor just to make sure because everyone's body is different. You should go up to at least 140 beats a minute & no there is no harm. You are in fact making it stronger by making it work a tad bit extra.
So even though you are not into dancing. Just by walking on a fast pace you can do cardio & increase your stamina.
For food, you have it right. All the things you mentioned are iron rich foods. I know that chicken liver has a lot of ion in it. In fruits: dates, water melons, kiwis, strawberries, Cherries, figs, pomegranate & raspberries can be a good source of iron.
If you are convinced that you are in fact anemic, get your self checked. Your doctor should be able to tell you what you can do to increase iron in your body. Just a heads up, if you do end up taking pills which is nothing wrong by the way, suddenly increasing iron in your body can you make you prone to being constipated ( I know tmi) but be prepared for that.
thanks for such an elaborated post and help bint e naeem. im happier to know chicken liver can do atleast half if not as good as the goat liver can do because I cannot stand the smell of the red meat liver. chicken liver will do fine. Thanks once again for mentioning the iron rich fruits too. that was a great help indeed. Okay I compromise on doing cardio as far as its a walk only. can do this much atleast. well im hopeful if I stick to this much of cardio and a balanced and iron rich diet, i dont really have to see a doctor.
If your body can expand to give birth to a human baby...it can definitely do cardio.
Its hard. You have to build stamina as someone else already suggested. You aren't born with it. If I stay home for 2 weeks, it won't be easy for me to do 30 minutes of decent cardio...it will be hard.
It all looks scary in the beginning...have some faith in yourself and at least TRY. You will never know how strong you are unless you TRY.
Do you have allergies or asthma? Sometimes people develop allergies and that triggers asthma even if you've never had it before.
I would go to an allergist and have them run some tests just to see.
When I went, I had no idea but I did have allergies that triggered asthma. I wasn't breathing even close to normal. Its superrrrrr common and not serious at all.
