This question is stuck in my head for the past few days :
If you cook your food in a pan that’s been used for non halal food (like porc), is your food still halal ? (Even though the pan has been washed)
Like in restaurants or when you’re invited by a non muslim ?
By that, if someone cooks pork and you wash that pan thrice, the food cooked later in it would still be halal (non affected by the pork) ?
YES, some say 7...but, the pan must be scrubbed rather than just washed with dish-washing detergent on a sponge. Islam makes life easier and discourages unnecessary spending.
Scholars share different opinions. Some say the pan or any utensil should be washed seven times. Some other says it should be rubbed with sand six times and one time with water. Many others says eight time. I unable to find any direct narration regarding this. However what I know I’ll share it with you as per my best understanding but I suggest you to consult with qualified Aalam or Scholar. How to wash? plz refer the hadiths below:
In Sahih Muslim, it is narrated that if dog licks any utensil than it should be washed seven times. Many scholars from the context of these hadiths said if ‘haraam’ things i.e. pork etc., is cooked in that pan or served in any utensil than it should be washed seven times.
**Book ‘The Book of Purification (Kitab Al-Taharah)’ of Sahih Muslim Hadith No. 0546, 0549, 0551.
**
Abu Huraira reported the Messenger of Allah to have said: When a dog licks a utensil belonging to any one of you, (the thing contained in it) should be thrown away and then (the utensil) should be washed seven times.
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah said: The purification of the utensil belonging to any one of you, after it is licked by a dog, lies in washing it seven times, using sand for the first time.
Ibn Mughaffal reported: The Messenger of Allah ordered killing of the dogs, and then said: What about them, i. e. about other dogs? and then granted concession (to keep) the dog for hunting and the dog for (the security) of the herd, and said: When the dog licks the utensil, wash it seven times, and rub it with earth the eighth time.
Almighty Allah knows best.
Peace Zapatista,
There is no harm if info copied and pasted from other sites is correct. Mere bhai ‘Mehnat karo, Hassad mat karo’
so if a neighbor gives us something to eat, we should throw the food away because we dont know if the pan is washed 3 or 7 times ?
I thought we can accept the food given by people of book.

Even some Muslims are unaware or unsure of washing a dish 3 or 7 times, so it's less likely that that non-Muslim neighbor would know to wash a dish 3/7 times......
If someone gives you something that is halal or vegetarian, what would be a bigger sin? to waste food and throw it away and possibly offend the person? or to eat it, knowing that the ingredients are halal/permissible to eat?
