that is completely utter bull. Good on ya for not believing that.
The cultural context is that our clothes are covered where as Arab/Iranian women clothes themselves are what we would consider western wear: as in halter tops,blouses,skirts etc. so they wear their abbayas/montos on top of their regular clothes.
If had to wear an abbaya I would wear a tank top with jeans.Y ?because even if i wore 100 layers of cloth underneath what’s the point?Who would know/see/tell?.i have friends who wear jeans over their sleeping shirt and then the abbaya for uni in the morning. Scandalous.
I was once in syria and my mum was talking to an Iranian lady .They were discussing hijab and how Pakistani hijabs weren’t always in place etc as chadars /duppatas are loose etc.the lady turned round and said “Libas e shuma hijab has”. My Farsi is rusty.Translation*“The clothes you all wear is hijab.your entire body is covered ,our clothes are not of that nature”.

I find it hilarious when people diss hijabis who reveal skin in a Mehram group of people but wont blink an eye when a non hijabi is wearing less of an outfit in front of na-mehrams.You’ll hear comments like woh tu family hay, they are old friends, just like family.That **man is like her uncle! he has seen her since she was a baby. FYI aunty :still not a mehram according to Allah.
This one aunty was criticizing an Iranian bride who wore a dress (they wear the white english dress) and at her own nieces wedding the clothes the aunties wore combined with their dances was good to wearing nothing in my opinion.But yeah lets bite off the head of the hijabi who wears something little more revealing.In mehram/segregated events.
As a society we will say let’s not judge someone who wears sleeveless but lets judge the girl in hijab who does makeup wears sleeveless in a ladies function. sheesh.
