Hair care

So for the past month or so, I’ve decided to start the following routine for my dryish frizzy hair. I’ve been really pleased with the results!

Before I sleep:
mix almond oil and coconut oil, and heat for 30 seconds in the microwave.
massage into scalp and to tips of hair
sleep (usually with a towel on the pillow, so as to avoid ruining the pillow)

In the morning:
take a towel and dampen
heat towel in the microwave for 2 minutes
wrap hair in towel and enjoy the sensation. you can pair this with a nice facial massage and steam your face as well.
if you have time, repeat during the course of the day.
wash hair as usual

my hair shines!

What are you tried and true tips?

Re: Hair care

Itna time naheen hay yeh sab time waloon kay kaam hain :(

Re: Hair care

But it doesn't take that long, adra. The most important thing is to do it before you sleep (you can do the hot towel thing then too).

I always have an amazingly deep sleep when I have oil in my hair. It's probably the scalp massage.

Re: Hair care

i only use reetha and shikakai herbs as a shampoo preceded with an amla powder treatment. It has made a big difference in the overall condition and thickness of my hair. I dont blowdry or straighten except for big events. Im trying to grow my hair and since im not planning on getting any haircuts I can use all the help I need for making them look healthy.

my grandma and then my MIL used to give me amazing scalp massages with amla hair oil. they do melt away stress.

Re: Hair care

all the head malish i get gimme headaches =(
Sahar do u do this every single day?

I only apply oil to my hair 3 times a week..since washing u're hair too much and using extra shampoo and the vigorous rubbing breaks hair easily when u're getting the oil out.

My scalp is really dry I started using Olive Oil but thats not really helping that what. Any suggestion on what else I can do? I'm noticing my hair is falling out alot too......... =(

Re: Hair care

really don't have time for doing it everyday....I only oil my hair on the weekend and usually leave them overnight and next day ..so at least 12 hours.
During midweek, once a week, i have started using hair and scalp mask. You just leave it in for 15 minutes and then wash, it is really good for your scalp. There was a time when I did not oil my hair for almost a year and I lost soo much hair and had so much dandruff arghh

Once a week, so far.

I've found coconut oil to be very moisturizing.

can you tell us more about it?

Re: Hair care

I started using conditioner in hopes that it would help with frizzies. But half my hair fell out! (really, not kidding) I don't know if it's the brand or what. Shweetz, I'd also like to know more about this amla powder.

Re: Hair care

I do the oiling part once a week, mostly on the weekends. Can't sleep with oil in my hair, its just a wierd feeling, and i usually wake up with a cold.

Sweetz, can you please explain the haircare regime.

Re: Hair care

hmm nice tips ppl.....

thx sahar :) n everyone else

i got the amla, reetha, shikakai powders from a shop in jackson heights (they sell ayurvedic products) i think they're in the same line as karishma and lavanya etc...

I just make a thick paste of the amla powder and water and then rub it in my hair roots and when the roots are covered i use the remaining on the rest of my hair, leave in for about 45 minutes. I make a separate paste of reetha and shikakai powders mixed together with water and after washing out the amla i use this paste as a shampoo. I gotta warn that it takes alot of time to rub the reetha out properly because it is actually more like a scrub for the hair. You dont need to use shampoo as reetha and shikakai naturally remove dirt from the hair.

ruiner: conditioner used to make my hair fall out too....I stopped using them long ago because of this. plus they make the hair really flat looking which i hate. I always want more volume.

Re: Hair care

I especially noticed hair fall out with Herbal Essences conditioner. I stopped using that immediately. I do still use conditioner. Maybe I should try stopping?

Shweetdreams, what do you use when you have oil in your hair? Do these herbal hair treatments take oil off of your hair?

Re: Hair care

I oil my hair 2-4 times a month for a few hours at a time and my hair instantly regains the shine and bounciness. If i dont oil, its very dry and just unattractive.

^^Ira, you have very beautiful hair, mashAllah! :)

I have started using hot amla oil in my hair once a week as well and my is improving. I hope my hair loss stops. I hate hair sticking to my clothes. :(

Re: Hair care

I havent used hair oil in a while...maybe I should start...my hair is very dry...
