Hair and Makeup Courses

Hey Everyone!

I’m a new member and I apologise if this topic has already been discussed. However I need some help.

I’m looking at doing a hair and makeup course and was wondering if anyone could recommend any in London? i’ve looked into Lubna Rafiq, Riz Khan, Jawaad Ashraf, Ash Kumar etc.

All of the courses i feel are very over priced for a short duration and in some ways has put me off. However i’m still keeping my eyes peeled as this is something i really want to do. I’m considering the Ash Kumar make-up course and was wondering if anyone who has done the course could maybe give me some feedback? or recommend any good courses..

Thanks guys, look forward to the response.

Re: Hair and Makeup Courses

no one willing to help, i take it!!

Re: Hair and Makeup Courses

Hi!

There is another thread on which i posted something similar.

I' not in London so don't know how much help I can be, but i'm going to take a makeup course in september. I'm doing my course from z bridal studio in bradford. I've seen her work and think its really good.

i had my doubts about these short courses and how much they cost etc, but I have been reassured.

How much does the ash kumar course cost and whats the duration?

Re: Hair and Makeup Courses

I've seen the z bridal makeup website too and the work does look amazing. Its a shame its soo far from me. The Ash Kumar course is 8days for £1600 i believe. However speaking to a few people about short courses, some are saying they're not worth it. Left me baffled lol!

Re: Hair and Makeup Courses

oh i never saw the thread, what isit under? i'll join that.

Re: Hair and Makeup Courses

If you’re paying 1000+ pounds/euros on beauty courses and still not getting an ITEC/CIBTAC/CIDESCO certification then you’re wasting your time, to be honest. I know you probably don’t want to make a career out of it but if you’re paying so much money, you might as well obtain an internationally recognised cert/diploma at the end of the course. Otherwise, it isn’t worth it. Even youtube can teach you how to apply makeup on yourself.

I know in the UK there’s plenty of desi makeup artists offering makeup courses but most of them are rip-offs. What can you learn in 8 days?!

I suggest you save the money for the next time you go to Pakistan. Join the Depilex Institute and do their professional course which is 2.5 lakh (£1,795) and 4.5 months long in which they cover skin treatments, hair and all kinds of makeup. At the end you get three internationally recognised diplomas. Their advanced makeup course is 1.5 lakh and 3 months long and the personal grooming course is 20,000 rupees and minimum 1 week long. These are the most recent price quotes and I was told these prices are fixed when in fact we have had guppans who’ve done the personal grooming course for 35,000+ rupees. :vivo: Anyway, spend your money wisely and learn from the pros instead of a rip-off makeup artist who isn’t going to teach you for more than a week and won’t even give you a proper certification by the end of it.

Re: Hair and Makeup Courses

Thanks Barbie

I defo agree with what you're saying, however it will be pretty difficult for me to go India for that long. So i may have to keep looking for certified course here. Do you know any in london? they'll probably be pretty expensive here i guess.

Re: Hair and Makeup Courses

I’m not from the UK so I can’t be of much help. But I’ve been following one particular British-Pakistani makeup artist on youtube.

SadafHairandBeauty: http://www.youtube.com/user/SadafHairAndBeauty

She offers makeup courses http://www.sadafhairandbeauty.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=87&Itemid=149 and you’ll have to contact her for all the information. Her website doesn’t say whether they’re certified courses or not. She’s based in Manchester but if her prices are reasonable, I’m sure it’ll be worth going over to her for a few days. Or, if there’s a small group of girls in London wanting to learn from her, she may even come down to London for ye.

Another one is Malika Jafrin: http://www.malikamakeupartist.co.uk/#/courses/4546714803 But she has worked with bollywood celebs so I’m guessing she too is quite expensive. London might not be the best place to look for certified makeup courses in a reasonable price since everything is overpriced in London, lol!

Just from google search, I found a couple more: http://www.saharamakeup.co.uk/ and http://www.nasimaahmed.co.uk/

Re: Hair and Makeup Courses

Makeup really isn’t rocket science. It can be picked up in a few days. I don’t think it necessary to participate in a course lasting more then 10 days. Quality not quantity.

I would recommend Abreeen [http://www.ambreenmakeup.com/

S](http://www.ambreenmakeup.com/)he is by far the best makeup artist that I have come across in London. I know of a few friends that have learnt off her and the feedback they gave is great. Ambreen and Farhana are lovely girls, based in North London. They offer intensive and and very professional courses.

She may be expensive, but hey, quality comes with a price. If you would like I can PM you her mobile number.

Re: Hair and Makeup Courses

With z bridal, I will be getting a BABTAC certificate which is know globally. She is not a ‘rip off’ makeup artist, but a makeup MAESTRO. I’m sure you CAN learn within a week because if you couldn’t, these places would be open.

Some people can’t do a 4 month course with DEPILEX like me because I don’t live in Pakistan and even if i do go, there isn’t a DEPILEX where I live.

Re: Hair and Makeup Courses

Nazi i've just googled ambreen and her work does look really good. I went to the ash kumar open evening yesterday and his course seems really good, spoke to a few students who gave a lot of advice.. however please do PM me ambreens number so i can have a chat with her too. Thank you :)

Its really difficult to find makeup artists whos work is actually good, as alot of the images on their websites are very photoshopped, so you cant even tell whats real and what isnt.

Re: Hair and Makeup Courses

Nausheen the z bridal course looks great, work looks really good too. However it'll be too far for me to commute.. its a shame as it would have been a great course to go and do.. :|

Re: Hair and Makeup Courses

I went to see sahida (the owner of z bridal) on thursday and was very impressed!

I know, its hard to see artists real work as alot of their work is retouched.

Re: Hair and Makeup Courses

Ah really? you must live quite close to the area then no? i wish i did.

Re: Hair and Makeup Courses

I dont live in the same town, but it only takes about 20 minutes to get to the studio.

I'm so excited, I can't wait to start training! :)

Re: Hair and Makeup Courses

Aww bless, i hope it goes well for u :) it is well exciting actually finding something you want to do.

Re: Hair and Makeup Courses

Now tht I have a bit of time on my hands I was thinking of doing a bridal course, but forking out £1,000+ is too much in my books (although if u do intend on becoming a MUA u will get ur monies back iA) Ambreens course does look good. However, her mum did my hair on my wedding day and I wasn't impressed with it much. Although I have heard her makeup is good (she has worked for Mac). What I was thinking of doing was going on a makeup course with pixiwoo who are in my books more experienced and have better knowledge on makeup compared to Asian makeup artist who only seem to know about mac lol. Then I intend on finding someone (preferably Asian) to do hair and duppata training with. One good thing about Asian MUA's is they help u build ur portfolio which at present I really don't have a clue about.

Re: Hair and Makeup Courses

Ambreen has done the bridal hair and makeup for some people I know and it is a jaw dropper every time. The photos online and in Asiana Mag are obviously photo shopped but her work is pretty much top notch and flawless.

No prob, I will PM you her mobile number and email address.

Re: Hair and Makeup Courses

Whoever you decide to learn from, ensure they know how to apply a variety of looks. Far too many MUA only know 1 or 2 styles and they think those styles suit everyone and they really do not!

A lot of MUA just gas it with their skills, you need to learn from someone who doesnt just talk like a MUA (anyone can do that) but actually proves they can apply and adapt their skills to meet the needs of a variety of clients.

P.S Ash Kumar is a joke IMO. I went to uni with him, well he dropped out after a semester and he chats it, like properly chats it.

Re: Hair and Makeup Courses

No way you went to uni with Ask Kumar? I thought he was a FOB? No.

Littledesi, I would also check out the artists in the Asiana MAGs, they usually do different looks/styles ect.
